Honestly, they shouldn’t have extended him. Brunson basically got him that extension. Lost in the first round in year one and didn’t make the playoffs in year 2. Had Brunson not arrived, they wouldn’t have made it this far.

He failed to develop ANY young player the knicks drafted after he got there. Only ONE player is still on the team when it got there, Mitchell Robinson, and he's been reduced to a role player off the bench. He never developed.
The Knicks got spanked by the top 3 teams in the NBA and got swept by Boston/Cleveland. This is after they upgraded the roster. Precious Achuiwa chose to take less money to come back to the Knicks, and Thibs doesn't even try to play him in the post season. He never developed the bench.
He had talent in Minnesota and failed. He had talent in Chicago and failed. His bytch ass ruined Derrick Rose's career by over playing him, and his own players in New York started complaining.
He needed to go. He was never going to get the Knicks far. His strength was his defense, but clearly that's not the case with this roster. The Knicks have enough talent to where who the coach is doesn't matter. A young up and coming coach would be an upgrade over Thibodeau.
1. Mitchell Robinson cut his foul rate under Thibs a major problem in his early career. Robinson was never going to be more than a rim runner/rim protector he excels in that role and injuries are what’s held him back. Miles McBride, Obi Toppin, Immanuel Quickley all developed.
2. The Knicks BEAT Boston in the playoffs with a much better team and Thibs outcoached Joe Mazzula.
3. Precious
4. No coach in NBA history would win a championship with the rosters Thibs has had. Those teams were largely maximized by Thibs.
The Bulls and Wolves
Thibs has resurrected three franchises now and most if not all of his playoff loses were against superior teams.
5. He’s not responsible for Rose’s injuries—sports scientists have already broken down his landing techniques and reckless playing style. He was a ticking time bomb. At one point Thibs had Joakim Noah as an MVP candidate.
6. He was never going to get the Knicks far? So now the ECF, first time in 25 years isn’t far.
7. What young up and coming coach? What makes you think that any Joe Schmoe is automatically better than Thibs? What makes you think a young coach is ready to step into a team with these dynamics, personalities, expectations, bytch ass fans and excel?
This is clear conditioned group think full of the same shytty narratives. Extreme scapegoatism if one were to follow this you’d think Thibs just stood on the sideline and did nothing.

It might be speculation, but it doesn't take a genius to realize that Thibs control freak, stubborn, unchanging nature more than likely factored into his decision to leave. And it's obvious he has more autonomy on the Cavs then he did here

At the end of the day, do you want Thibs coaching this team with players in the middle of their prime? The Knicks gave up a lot of picks, trading away players and spent a lot of money to win now. If Thibs couldn't win a title with this roster, why waste more time?

I feel you, but this isn't the normal way to hire a new head coach.
You don't ask multiple teams to interview the head coach that they have on contract. You interview coaches that are either unhired, assistant coaches, college coaches, etc. You get the point.

I don’t support those coaches getting canned and most those organizations are worse off for it. Mike Malone got done super dirty and their championship window closing is because of that clown Calvin Booth.Stop turning this shyt into Love & Basketball.
Thibs fukked up all season and both ownership and the FO thought he had the team underperforming. Mike Malone won a championship with his team and got fired. Nick Nurse won a championship with his team and got fired. Mike Budenhozer won a championship with his team and got fired. None of them got fired for any reason besides the fact the team was underperforming and they had lost the locker room.
This isn’t a soap opera, it’s a job, if your boss tell you to do something, you do it, it works, and then the next day you stop doing that to return to doing what did not work before….. that’s insanity. Doing the same same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
ECF is a different result.
When’s the last time the Knicks beat a team of Boston’s caliber? The 70’s?
