That's the point though - they're a cloud provider, they don't NEED hardware. They give you a URL and a controller and you're in there. All you need is the bandwidth and subscription. The money is in the subscriptions because almost all of us probably subscribe to some shyt we don't really need but it ain't hurting our pockets enough to cancel. This is an easy 6 bucks a month for them, and they didn't have to do much infrastructure work because it was already in place for AWS. This is where Microsoft is trying to get and where Google could have been.
True that. I feel like by maybe the next 5 to 7 years or the next gaming cycle it will be way more cloud and streaming versus consoles and discs. Might even be all digital consoles if hardware. If they can fit hard drives with more storage space in smaller devices, then there would be no need for discs by that time. It's like this time we're in it's the beginning of a new gaming era, maybe even a revolution, and the way we play games 5 to 10 years from now will be completely different.

Right, the thing with gaming unlike other services is there always hard required.

Aka controllers.

It took 14 years just about for people to really get comfortable going digital.

It would take another 14 for people to be comfortable having no system to associate with there gaming.

Google is the only company I feel can change this but stadia sucks as it is now and Google doesn't have a great record of sticking with pet projects.

Now all this changes if these services start being apps built into tvs and browsers.

That basically would turn the game back on it's head to "who has the best exclusives available to stream from"

meh, i think microsoft is going about this in the correct way.

trying to get people to abandon their consoles isn't gonna work, google already proved that so I don't know why amazon thinks it will be any different for them. Google even got timed exclusives.

The best way to go about this is to get people into the cloud eco system through the hardware you already have. Once people have completely adopted the idea of not owning physical media and just temporarily playing stuff is when you can start to ween them off specific hardware.

...And this is still a long play, strictly cloud gaming won't be a thing in this decade.

If Stadia gets everything right it's over for consoles.. Microsoft didn't buy a company for nothing. They seen this coming.

One thing you have to understand is Microsoft and Amazon market cap are 1.5 trillion dollars.. Google is 1 trillion.. Sony is 98 Billion.. This is why they don't consider Sony a long term threat.

Google and Microsoft have more tangible cash than Amazon.

Indeed, but it's not the now that concerns me as much as going forward in the future (granted the now is already insane).

Amazon continues to grow ridiculously, especially their cash cow AWS which is the king of cloud hosting and drives their profits. They barely make anything on the marketplace/Prime. Margins are very thin for them there, but AWS is printing money and continues to grow.

Their revenue last year was 281 billion.....Microsoft was half at 143 and Google was 161. Nothing to scoff at of course, but they keep growing substantially at a rate greater than Google and MS.

So I've looked into Luna a bit and I'ma keep it real they really bout to push Google's wig back something serious:huhldup:

I say this as someone who bought a Stadia Premier Edition and put in a good amount of time on it:hubie:. I fully believe in the technology itself but the "brand" has been run pretty poorly since reveal

Luna is cheaper, has a comparable or arguably better game library already, lets you stream on 2 devices at a time, has iOS support (although no Android:patrice:), and they're already looking much more aggressive out the gates with clear and concise marketing, something Google has failed miserably at with Stadia. Their commercial does a much better job of selling the idea of cloud gaming than anything Google's put out, and on top of all that, they have Twitch integration in their back pocket which will serve to promote and build brand awareness early. Google promised to do the same thing with Youtube but has yet to do so on Stadia since it launched last November. The only true advantage Stadia has right now is the ability to stream in 4K which is coming soon to Luna at a lower cost anyway:yeshrug:

I still need to play it for myself to be sure, but knowing Amazon & Google's track records, it's much more likely that Amazon swoop in and be the first cloud-only gaming platform to really pop than Google get their heads out of their asses and start delivering on all the other features they've promised outside of the awesome streaming quality itself. They get patches for games way late, have no type of family/game sharing, and even games like Destiny 2 suffer from a lack of player base for multiplayer:francis:

I give them 3-4 months after launch and Luna will already be more relevant than Stadia. Even the Stadia reddit full of the stannliest of stans already bout to jump ship no hesitation:picard:

You hit the nail on the head with the twitch integration.

shyt is gonna be crazy, youll be watching your fave streamer and then, with the click of a button, be able to play the same game, almost instantly, on any device, once this cloud shyt really gets popping.

MSFT and Facebook already working on that as well, with the demise of mixer. Im assuming Google wants to do the same thing with stadia and youtube.

Every one basically wants to be able to advertise you a game and have you jump in immediately :wow:

Google has to be the worst of the tech giants when it comes to marketing and selling their products. I'm sure Stadia is a good service but Google treats it like it's a side project. They had a headstart in cloud gaming and watched the compeition create something better:francis:
