They did an update, they added an option for "classic tabs", but you still have to bring up bookmarks and/or most visited w/ multiple clicks.
I wouldn't consider the GPE a special edition. its the same phone with stock Android on it.

you could put stock Android on an S5 if you unlock the bootloader and flash it on there. if anything having stock Android on the M8 puts it at a disadvantage because some of the features of the phone were designed to be used by HTC Sense 6.
