Brehs it's time to retire my Galaxy Nexus (i9250). Having constant hardware issues with it. Latest is I have to use an earpiece when on the phone or else I have to put the person on speaker. Gets kind of irritating. Also replaced the USB port twice now, common issue.
Was looking at the GS5/Note 3 or HTC One M8. Wife has the HTC One M7 from last year which seems to have been solid. What drew me to the 9250 a few years back was it being pure Android with no bloatware/touchwiz/etc. Only downfall I've read so far on the M8 is the camera, when compared to the other 2. Is it really that bad? Like most, my phone camera has pretty much become my primary device as I usually forget to bring my Nikon point-and-shoot along. Anything worth looking at outside of these 3?
From the samples I've seen on reviews, the camera is useable. It isn't god awful, but it definitely doesn't compare well against any of the other flagship devices out there. I'd love to know the reason they stuck with a 4MP sensor when that was the weakness with the One M7 last year
As for other devices worth taking a look at:
- There's the Nexus 5. The display's comparable to the GS5 and One M8, and while the camera doesn't fare as well as the GS5's camera (except in low light conditions), it does generally take better shots than the One M8. Battery life isn't as good as either of them though from what I've seen. You did't mention it in your post though, so I'm guessing perhaps you weren't really considering it for some reason
- There's the One Plus One. It's well built, with comparable specs to the GS5 and HTC One M8, and comes with a custom versionCyanogenMod based on 4.4 KitKat. It's not "stock" Android, but in terms of look and feel, it basically is stock + some very useful tweaks. Getting your hands on one though might be a real challenge
- LG is holding a special event on Tuesday, likely announcing the G3. And from what's leaked so far, it either matches or trumps the specs of the two phones you mentioned.
Personally, I'd like to get my hands on the Xperia Z2 and at least see what that's about, but Sony constantly drags their feet making their phones available in the US
