i am not an expert on police matters
from a discussion i had with some people this morning
(i consider these men reliable and trustworthy)
LAPD teaches its officers
1. 10'
2. 3 seconds
3. immediate defense of life
do not let anyone gets within a 10 foot bubble
the subject has a 3 second headstart on an officer
any ambiguous movement is going to draw fire
use lethal force - chest shots
it is considered immediate defense of life
the officer doesn't have to spend time identifying themselves
saying "freeze" etc. any of that
3 seconds and 10 feet
i was curious
it seems a book called "Patrol Response to Contemporary Problems"
by Kolman (i skimmed some pages)
discusses some of these same ideas
i am sorry that man is dead
re: mental health, he did not get the help he seemed to need
very bad situation
also ,even if something is "standard procedure"
it should be reviewed periodically to see if it is giving good outcomes
