What I will say I didn't realize how popular SF6 is in Japan. I knew the game was doing well over there but I didn't know it was poppin like that. SFL is a big deal over there and the SF content creators get crazy views

In that context I understand this move. Capcom is doubling down and locking down Japan. I get it but this also feels like a slap in the face to the people that built the fgc. Keep in mind America created the fgc to begin with

Street Fighter 5 wasn't that long ago, and a few of us know that shyt would've been Nen Impact status if not for American FGC and our content creators. But even outside of that we created all of the tournaments and built the infrastructure for everything that exists today.

Why did SBO die? Because the Japanese loved American format and money compared to what Japan is offering

I get Capcom wanting to make money, especially when they're offering a million dollars to play a videogame, but this also comes off like they're acting brand new on nikkas

I mean its been like that at the end of the day the japanese care about the japanese first regardless of anything else.

I remember the days of us having to import games just so we wasn't years behind on learning them, America ALWAYS been more hardcore about this shyt they just got the games first.

OK
All they had to do was bundle this with costumes for the cast and I think this would’ve been an easy sell. I’m not opposed to ppv, but charging $40 when you can buy a character season pass for $30? :francis:

40$ bruh that shyt 4000¥ which equates to 26$. You getting this for a bargain while Nippon is :sadcam: looking at those prices.

On topic I said this shyt was eventually going to happen, so much free content for years they needed a way to monetize it. Not just for esports but other content creators as well. Smarter move would have been to partner with a streaming service since the PPV model is outdated but Japan is gonna Japan.

Everyone saying just make costume packs don’t understand that shyt ain’t moving numbers. Viewers that care about those colors are a very small percentage and not everyone who is a SF fan may not even own the game. It’s the equivalent of Matcherino, and as we can see nikkas ain’t donating in the 6-7 figure numbers.

You got any other argument other than feelings breh? :skip:

Let me reiterate, this PPV model IS retarded and an outdated approach to monetize the CPT.

CPT is not SF6 and Vice versa. Those are two separate orgs inside of Capcom with their own budgets and targets. Look at Capcom financial records they said CPT is losing 6 million dollars (not yen) a year not SF6. Hell they even have two different social media channel, completely separate. Capcom is not gonna pull from SF6’s budget to create gooner content for a portion of their CPT viewer base. Neither will Capcom ramp up and increase headcount for additional costumes.

SF6 as a whole is fine even without CPT, I assume they’re gonna stay in their lane since their hands are full with DLC roadmaps. CPT on the other hand needs to find ways to monetize their content outside voluntary subs and donations because relying on sf6 ain’t it.
