Nope not doing this again. Trying to care about the Grammys only to :pacspit: when Igloo Azelia wins.

Im good

I feel you. But she's not nominated this year Breh. It's actually a pretty decent list of nominations this year which is why I decided to go ahead and resurrect the thread this year

The Grammys don't matter because no one knows what the Grammys are rating. Until that happens it's entirely pointless. I could make a credible argument for why every single artist nominated for a Grammy should win over the others. That is not a good thing. I don't know why anyone cares about this thing.

Has winning more Grammys than Drake made Kendrick more popular or Cole less popular? It's all about politics man. The Grammys are vanity awards until we establish standards. The only thing it signifies is that people have made it. Made me proud when I saw my mom from way back credits for producing on Grammy nominated tracks. Other than that? shyt is awful.
Not only do we not know how they decide winners but how do they decide nominees?

Its been said on here before but the fact that Kendrick was nominated for a song that was released on a video game puts everything into question

Kendrick had a song that was never released as single, a bonus track on an album and not even a million youtube plays nominated for a grammy.

How is that possible @Ziggiy

Billboard throwing support behind K.Dot

Jody Rosen Is this Kendrick Lamar's year? The stars seem to be aligned for Lamar, who has a near-record 11 nominations. To Pimp a Butterfly was the year's most acclaimed album. It's contemporary, but its mix of vintage sources nods in the direction of the "real music" hallowed by the core Grammys voting bloc. A vote for Lamar will also redress the awards' historical neglect of hip-hop and make up for his snubbing at the 2014 Grammys. Lamar has spent several weeks on an old-fashioned Grammy lobbying campaign. He even released a video of his pilgrimage to the White House, where he met with President Barack Obama in connection with an inner-city youth-mentoring initiative. And in this year of Black Lives Matter protests, Lamar's anthems of black pain and transcendence caught the spirit of the times. In 2016, what self-respecting Grammy voter would cast a ballot for Keebler Elf Ed Sheeran or even Her Royal Highness Taylor Swift over K-Dot

How do you Kendrick dikkriders reconcile the fact that ALL of the music Kendrick worked to the public flopped.

Cole found success with Apparently and Wet Dreamz, so with all the acclaim y'all claim TPAB received and the record sales there is no why an artist of Kendrick stature can flop to the larger hiphop fanbase.

These nominations are the product of the machine

I think he'll win most of the rap awards - rap song, album, rap performance, etc. Prob won't win the rap/sung one, I can see Common getting that.

Not expecting him to win any of the "premier" awards ie AOTY, SOTY, etc. I heard a lot of people who don't really vote are voting this time. All them black people who sat back and watched Macklemore win in 2013 when they could have voted are voting this time. We'll see if it works out but I doubt it.

I'd bet on Taylor Swift or Alabama Shakes winning AOTY.

TPAB is Grammy music he is my favorite to win AOTY.

Diverse musical influence/mixture of live and electronic instruments/deep lyrical subject matter etc.

It fits into the pop music canon as a masterpiece by their parameters. Or at least the Grammy parameters I perceive heh.
He's an upset pick.

But this proves my point about how it is all politics. They say right there that he is lobbying for it. I think the Alabama Shakes actually win it due to rock bias. They're the only people in that category with no one to take votes from them. When Swift won she was also country. She won't get those votes this type. The Weeknd/Swift/K.Dot will be fighting over the same votes. If they robbed Beyonce last year in which she sold the most records, had the most impact and had the highest rated album in the category then I don't know for K. Dot. But I didn't love that album like you guys anyway. :manny: .

The Earlyregistration.com has some predictions for the rap specific categories...

Best Rap Album

J. Cole, 2014 Forest Hills Drive
Dr. Dre, Compton
Drake, If You’re Reading This Its Too Late
Kendrick Lamar, To Pimp a Butterfly
Nicki Minaj, The Pinkprint

While Drake’s If You’re Reading This Its Too Late and J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Driveshould give Kendrick Lamar’s sophomore LP, To Pimp a Butterfly, a run for it’s money, they won’t. With TPAB nominated for the overall Best Album award, it is almost a given that it will take home the W for Best Rap Album. And don’t consider this a make-up award, even though Lamar’s debut album was upset by Macklemore a couple years ago, TPAB is a classic album and our favorite album of 2015.

Best Rap Performance

J. Cole, ‘Apparently’
Drake, ‘Back to Back’
Fetty Wap, ‘Trap Queen’
Kendrick Lamar, ‘Alright’
Nicki Minaj feat. Drake & Lil Wayne, ‘Truffle Butter’
Kanye West feat. Theophilus London, Allan Kingdom & Paul McCartney, ‘All Day’

Almost anything associated with Kendrick Lamar is going to win this year, whether it’s Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’ music video or whether it’s the award for Best Rap Performance. ‘Alright’ was and is one of the best records from 2015, and while songs like ‘All Day’ and ‘Trap Queen’ were huge as well, they can’t compare to ‘Alright’. Kendrick Lamar won’t totally sweep the Grammys next year, especially in the non-Rap categories, but it should likely pick up this win.

Best Rap/Sung Collaboration

Big Sean feat. Kanye West & John Legend, ‘One Man Can Change the World’
Common & John Legend, ‘Glory’
Jidenna feat. Roman GianArthur, ‘Classic Man’
Kendrick Lamar feat. Bilal, Anna Wise & Thundercat, ‘These Walls’
Nicki Minaj feat. Drake, Lil Wayne & Chris Brown, ‘Only’

This is the rare exception to the “Kendrick Lamar rule” for Rap Categories that we just mentioned. Although Kendrick will win huge in the rap categories next February, his Bilal, Anna Wise and Thundercat collab ‘These Walls’ just doesn’t compare to the beautiful collaboration between John Legend and Common, ‘Glory’. The record has already received some huge accolades, including the “Best Original Song” award at the Golden Globes and Academy Awards, and now it’s time for the song to win a Grammy as well.

Best Rap Song

Kanye West feat. Theophilus London, Allan Kingdom & Paul McCartney, ‘All Day’
Kendrick Lamar, ‘Alright’
Drake, ‘Energy’
Common & John Legend, ‘Glory’
Fetty Wap, ‘Trap Queen’

Kendrick Lamar won’t be too upset about losing to Common and John Legend in the Rap/Sung category, especially since ‘Alright’ is the favorite to win both Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. While the two awards are technically different, they both have given Grammys to the exact same record for the past few years (including last year for Kendrick’s To Pimp a Butterfly record ‘i’). Especially with such a great song like ‘Alright’, there is no reason to expect that trend to change. Mark up Kendrick for another Grammy for this one.

They're predicting Taylor Swift for AOTY

Album of the Year

Alabama Shakes, Sound and Color
Kendrick Lamar, To Pimp a Butterfly
Chris Stapleton, Traveller
Taylor Swift, 1989
The Weeknd, Beauty Behind the Madness

We told you before, there is not another album like Taylor Swift’s 1989. Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly is one of the best albums from 2015, if not the best. The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness had a bunch of hits. But Taylor Swift’s 1989 had what makes each of those two albums great, and then some. Like TPAB, Swift’s latest LP had a lot of critical acclaim. And like The Weeknd’s latest efforts, 1989 had a ton of commercial success in its singles. However with the enormous sales, the huge amount of spins that practically half of Taylor’s album got on the radio, and because it was so well received by the world’s top critics, 1989 almost has to win. Every album on the list deserves to win the award, but only one can take home the year’s biggest Grammy, and this year it will be Taylor Swift.

After years of shade and disrespect your trying to give credibility to farce of an award show. You realize if Eminem or Macklemore drop they would br granted all the awards Kendrick deserves. How quickly nikkas forget how they shytted on GKMC.

I understand where you are coming from breh, and no shade to any Coli poster who feels the same. I myself wrote an opinion piece back in the early Coli days (which mysteriously disappeared:mjcry:) blasting the Grammy's and their disrespectful attitude towards Hip Hop.

However it is not ME who is giving credibility to the awards. The Artists themselves, including Kanye West, 50 Cent, Wutang (by way of ODB R.I.P) Jay-Z, etc. give credibility to the Awards Ceremony when they continuously show up, perform, accept, or criticize them. For better or worse these Awards are looked at as the peak of recognition for a body of work. Kendrick himself has said this year that he wants to "win ALL of them" so the artists themselves put a lot of stock in the recognition

Her music is so basic too. It's like she has bought off the media. Britney Spears never got this much love from the press for her music.
:ohhh:

Great observation, Taylor swift acclaim is barnone (no pun) when it comes to pop music.

How many pop starts where getting AOTY noms?

I don't think Britney Spears made great pop music. She always had a few great singles but doesn't have a great album or even a memorable one like Michael Jackson or Madonna have. I don't really fukk with pop but 1989 is catchy as fukk beginning to end. That plus the sales and radio dominance makes it a favorite IMO. The other option is the traditional "attempt to gain credibility" pick, which IMO would be Alabama Shakes this year. It's the "indie" type surprise the Grammys does every now and then (see: Beck, Arcade Fire). I don't think Kendrick has a chance at AOTY but that's just me.

As a random example my friend has a family member who votes on the Grammy board. Her AOTY vote is for Chris Stapleton's album, Alabama Shakes is her second choice.

I think Kendrick will sweep the rap awards except for rap/sung which will go to Common.

You mean since like the beginning of time? Sheeran, Swift, MJ, Sam Smith, Gaga, Bruno Mars, Adele, Rihanna, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, George Michael...list goes on.

Swift at least co-writes the majority if not all of her music and can play instruments. That's partially why people respect her, begrudgingly. It's unequal comparing her publicity and acclaim to Britney's because Swift was and is a much more advanced songwriter, and the media landscape is incredibly different.

All of the AOTY noms (except probably The Weeknd) have a good argument for winning. I'd put my money on Stapleton, even tho Kendrick's lil rat face has been campaigning harder than Bernie Sanders for Grammys of all things. He has a few things going for him, chiefly him losing last time and the musical diversity of his album.
