They weren't the bulk of his album though. Singles don't sell albums, you know that. You say it more than me. It would be unsafe if he wasn't already J. Cole, but he was and that "substance" is what people want from him. Besides, Wet Dreamz was played by every teenager. Apparently was the most streamed song on the album when it dropped most likely. It was the only one with a top 100 appearance for a second there. I actually think he dropped the most natural singles on his album. There was no "Power Trip" on there.

What was your opinion of Drake's album and what was your opinion of Compton?

Drake's album had bangers, but it faded fast for me. I do still play You and 6 from time to time. I cannot front on 40's production. To be honest, I never really sat with Compton. I let it play once and Dr. Dre didn't even sound like Dr. Dre. It was weird. He sounded like everyone featured on the tracks with him. I didn't really revisit it. I'm not surprised it didn't do the units expected, people weren't buzzing for that. He waited too long, and now the teenagers like my cousin don't care.

Yea Drake's shyt faded quickly for me too. His formula has gotten stale for me, that added with the Ghostwriters confirmation and I never again want to hear another lyric about him bragging about the "Greatest Of His Generation":camby:

Jungle was a banger though:manny:

I enjoyed Compton. Maybe because I didn't listen to it with the intentions of it even beginning to live up to the mystique of "Detox". I found it a solid 4 Mics and worthy of being the closing chapter of his discography. Some of the guest verses were :whew: standouts being Kendrick, Xzibit, and Game.

I owe Dre another chance. I also never sat with Game's album. The thing with Nicki is that she is probably the prototype female emcee from a cadence standpoint. I just wish her bars were better. I think she stagnated there.

Compton is a joke for something in 2015. It got such hype because it was new Dre and grabbed the ear of people who are of an older generation but its just an average project that he probably did because he promised Apple an exclusive and thats why it had 0 legs

Im bias to Drake and Im not going to bat for him in thread and @zigily talks shyt about Drake Ghostwriting but says Common should win the award for a song Rhymefest told everyone he wrote.

There is no requirement to be consistent as human but got damn man. You guys didn't like Drake before the QM stuff but to use that as the narrative to shade him now is disingenuous.

nevertheless, Bryson Tiller and Torey Lanez success right now is due to Copying IYRITL.

I hate Future isn't nominated but Grammys dont understand those type of artist but Future in 2015 is what everyone who complains about rap on this board wish their favorite artist was about.

Nickis album is how you rebound for damn near losing your fanbase and everything else with BS she dropped on her second album going for the Katy Perry fanbase.

She is has cemented her place behind Beyonce as the most adorned female artist in the urban community and she's just going to expand on that lane.

Breh Game's album was VERY good. I don't want to say "surprisingly" so because that does a disservice to Game but it's easily his best work since Doctor's Advocate.

Future was going against a stacked crowd though. Who can you possibly leave off that list? They should have just increased the amount of people that get nominated. Grammy voting should also be based on a point system. You should rank 1 through however many. Wale, Sean annd Future deserved nominations before Dre IMO.

Grammys are also stupid in how they cut off in like September. They should be January to December like every other major award show.

If they did January-December they would DEFINITELY have to increase the number of Noms. How many Noms would you say are appropriate? I'd say up to 10 for AOTY, SOTY, ROTY and 7-8 for the other categories including ROTY.

I am NO fan of either Future or Fetty Wap (Future will be walk to me until the end of time) but based upon the year that they had and the success they generated Future deserved a NOMINATION for ROTY and Fetty Wap deserved a Best New Artist nomination. I might go as far as to say Fetty Wap was snubbed

I don't think they'd have to go up to 10 for anything. I think 7 or 8 would be fine. It's just that the first year they do it maybe a one time increase because it would be a 15 month window, but after that it'd be 12. Every other award show operates on a year 12 month window.

That would also stop albums from bleeding over into the next year and, either being unfairly forgotten or being given too much prestige over superior work.

I swear EVERY YEAR there is an album or song that gets nominated that I completely have forgotten about because it feels "old" compared to the other nominees

I guess we'll never know. But no one has done it yet. Joey Badass didn't do it. No one else in TDE did. Gambino didn't. The only guy I see with the chance is Chance the Rapper. He's given people so much free music he'd push 200k first week regardless of the single.

Side note: K. Dot would technically be the 2nd rap album to win. Lauryn Hill was labeled as R and B when she won if I remember correctly. I think that's what the Grammys labeled her as. That should let you know how slim his chances are.

:mjlol:

Breh you are trippin hard.

That's more than rihannas last album just sold. Chance would be lucky to move 2k

Don't underestimate the power of a dedicated fanbase Breh.

I dont know about 200K but 100-115k isn't out of the realm of possibility.

And Rihanna's album wasn't the "typical" release she got the Jay-Z/Samsung stimulus package

@Abogado here's an article that writes briefly about the the Voting process.

In the mid-1990s, a private committee was created to review the voters’ choices in the top 4 categories, plus the Country, R&B, Latin, Gospel, Jazz, Classical, and Music Video categories. The committee then adjusts the nominations however they see fit. Maybe for television ratings. Maybe for diversity. Maybe to make sure that actual good albums are included in the big categories.

The committee was, after all, created for a reason, as Bill Wyman wrote for Slate in 2011: It was established after Lionel Richie’s Can’t Slow Down won Album of the Year over Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the USAand Prince’s Purple Rain. (Richie’s album hasn’t held up nearly as well as Springsteen’s or Prince’s.) But this information is not mentioned on the Grammys website.

Why neither Kendrick nor The Weeknd will win the Grammy for Album of the Year

Cheat sheet predicts Kendrick for AOTY

The Grammys kept its most high-profile award of the year relatively diverse this year, leaving room for a less-publicized (but great) oddity like Sound & Color by Alabama Shakes, but despite the presence of Alabama Shakes or even of new-fangled R&B superstar The Weeknd, this race is a toss-up between Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar. Both their respective albums, 1989 and To Pimp a Butterfly, have the critical and commercial chops to make it a front runner, spawning hits like “Shake It Off” and “Alright.” The awards snubbed Lamar as recently as 2014, when they gave the award for best rap album to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, which could mean they’ll do the same thing again, or they’ll try to make up for it by honoring Lamar this year. I’m calling To Pimp a Butterflythe winner, simply because I happen to prefer the album and because the Grammys sometimes shoot for prestige over popularity in this category (as they did last year by giving the award to Beck instead of Beyonce), but don’t be surprised if Taylor Swift picks up the award.
