The comic has a multiverse element too. I'd almost argue that this tweet is misleading because anyone whose read the comic knows that the parts following season 1 are multiversal.

Yeah, they aren't trend hopping by any means. It's just where the original story goes. Assuming they stick close to the original story, it's not going to hit most of the same cliche parallel universe notes the way most stuff does these days anyway.
