Israeli soldier killed in Gaza

The military says the soldier was killed in the southern Gaza Strip, the latest troop casualty since Israel launched its deadly assault on the coastal enclave in October 2023.
The Israeli government has faced domestic pressure to agree to end its war on Gaza in order to secure the release of Israeli captives.
Before Israel launched its attacks on Iran, it was also facing growing international calls to halt its attacks on Palestinians in Gaza and allow the free flow of humanitarian aid into the territory.
Rights groups have cautioned that with the world’s attention turned to the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, the Israeli military will ramp up its attacks on Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

G7 leaders gather in Canada in shadow of Israel-Iran conflict

Reporting from Banff, Canada
The first of the G7 leaders to arrive in Canada is the UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer. He’s announced that he’s going to bolster his country’s military resources in the Middle East.
That’s, I think, to protect the UK’s presence in the region. It’s not a very big presence, but they do have bases in quite a number of countries across the region.
That I think shows you the big worry among the G7 countries that this could spread, that there could be further escalation. That’s a worry about the military and political situation, but also – given that this is a place where the oil and gas reserves of the world are based – a worry about the effects on the global economy.
It’s not just the leaders of the G7 who will be here in the Canadian Rockies in the coming days, but also their invited guests. So there are eight other countries coming. Some of them, unlike the European nations and the US, have strongly condemned Israel’s actions, for example, Brazil and South Africa. So there’ll be a range of voices around the table.
I think the one person everyone will be trying to influence is President Donald Trump, because he’s the only player here at the meeting that could really change things on the ground, because Israel and Iran, of course, are both not here.
But Trump, if he wants, could exercise influence on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He could even either privately or publicly order him to stop the bombardment of Iran. Of course, the big question is, would the Israeli prime minister even listen to the US president?

Only tells me that they are attacking out of fear, not intelligence or known facts.

Now when Iran actually DOES go the distance, they can go like "See!? We KNEW IT!"

In reality, they pushed them in that direction so Iran is gonna go the deterrent route and protect itself.
I think it’s fair to be aggressive and on the offense with an enemy who has exchanged ordinance with you last year.

If there are reports, especially from the IAEA about excess material amounts of 60% then I think it’s understandable to not want to take chances.

For Israel, the second Iran has a nuclear weapon it’s basically over for them as that’s the ultra deterrent in modern threats. Putting myself in their shoes, an enemy about to match you is troubling and any signs of it getting near that point and you’d want it stopped if you can do anything about it.

Trump says US ‘had nothing to do’ with attack on Iran

But the American president has warned that if the US is “attacked in any way, shape or form by Iran, the full strength and might of the US Armed Forces will come down on you at levels never seen before”.
“However, we can easily get a deal done between Iran and Israel, and end this bloody conflict!!!” he wrote in a post on Truth Social.
Except for arming Israel, being bought by the Israeli lobbies, and protecting israel at the UN

Which is a fair assessment. Problem is, you are still guessing. And beginning a war on a guess is uh, kinda suicidal in the modern age.

But again, I have to remember that Israel has a few countries in their pocket, so I know they felt untouchable.

If Israel was truly about it, they would have disabled their defense and then dropped a nuke, calling it a day. But instead they are now in a war of attrition that no one wants.
But hey, whatever happens, I appreciate the calm discussion breh :salute:

Editor’s Choice: What to read and watch right now

We’ve published several pieces related to all aspects of the escalating Israel-Iran conflict in the past day.
Here are a few highlights:
  • Explainer: What is the Strait of Hormuz, could it factor into Israel-Iran conflict?
  • Analysis: Iran-Israel tensions and an unpredictable Trump to dominate G7
  • In the US: How military escalation with Iran divides Trump’s base
  • Watch: Preemptive strike? The media and Israel’s attack on Iran
And there’s plenty more coverage on tensions in the Middle East here.

What's happening now

Death and destruction: The death toll from Iranian strikes on Israel overnight into Sunday has risen to eight. This adds to the three people previously killed in Israel and at least 78 killed in Iran during the recent flare-up in hostilities, as reported by authorities in each country.

No end in sight: Israel’s operation against Iran is expected to take “weeks, not days” and is moving forward with implicit US approval, according to White House and Israeli officials. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned in a video address Saturday that Israel will “strike every site and every target of the Ayatollah’s regime.” Iran has threatened to intensify its attacks if Israel continues hostilities.

Strikes in Tehran: The Israeli Air Force carried out an “extensive series of intelligence-based strikes” on a number of targets in Tehran, including the headquarters of Iran’s Ministry of Defense, the Israeli military said. Iran’s Tasnim News Agency earlier reported that the strike caused minor damage to one of the ministry’s administrative buildings.

Energy targets: Iran said Israeli strikes targeted South Pars natural gas field – the largest in the world – and Shahran oil depot. Videos from Tehran show a large fire burning and smoke billowing in the distance.

Failed talks: The next round of US-Iran nuclear negotiations, due to take place in Oman this weekend, has been canceled, Oman’s foreign minister has said. His Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, earlier said such talks were “unjustifiable” while Israel’s attacks continued.

Russia and China
Is domestically built originally it was based on Russian and Chinese reversed engineered missiles.
Despite Russia and China pretending to be against the US they actively collude with them to keep modern weapons away from Iran.

Yeah exactly, crazy stakes and unfortunately nobody has a crystal ball and full transparency on what the other side is doing. That cloud of war.

Someone makes a wrong guess or miscalculation and it’s either they’re guilty of war crimes or they cost their country’s standing/position of power :wow:

Both of these countries definitely got themselves in a jam because of their history for sure though.
