breh, i don't want any of this, but you can't be serious. we could steamroll iran by the end of the month without even spending an extra cent on our current military

the saudis and china know where their bread is buttered, they wouldn't jump in for iran
just like Afghanistan huh?

how did that work out?

$3 Trillion down the toilet and the Taliban took control over in a week. You can't do a regime change war on a country with 90+ million people.

Top Dems on intelligence committees were not briefed before strikes — but Republicans were

From CNN’s Manu Raju
Jim Himes, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, was not briefed before the US’ strikes on Iran — even though his GOP counterpart on the panel, Chairman Rick Crawford, was in contact with the White House, per a person familiar.

Also, Sen. Mark Warner, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, also was not briefed before the attack, per a source familiar, but the GOP chairman, Tom Cotton, was briefed.

Both Democrats are on the “Gang of Eight,” which typically would be briefed before a significant US military engagement. The Gang of Eight includes the House and Senate leaders from each party as well as the chairs and ranking members of the House and Senate intelligence committees.

Top Republicans on the Gang of Eight — including Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune — both were briefed ahead of time, sources familiar say.

I feel like that won't happen (if you mean Republican politicians) until congressional Republicans feel unsafe in their districts.

I don't mean electorally, I mean physically. As long as the consequences are some far out electoral loss, they can stall and support the dumb shyt till the end.

If constituents start rolling up, expect a sea change.

This is part of why the entire GOP stopped having town halls this spring

No it's not
You mis-understand. Netanyahu wanted to do the assassination FIRST. But Trump said no. So the war kicked off.
It's always on the table but the "two weeks" was for this strike to happen.

we didn't go to war "with" afghanistan, we went to war "in" afghanistan, with no desired outcome except some vague bullshyt about al qaeda

trump would definitely lose a lot of support, but i don't see the american military having a problem handling a weakened iran. from a completely objective standpoint

then again, trump cant go to war without congress. so thats not happening

Analysis: Echoes of the past in US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites

From CNN’s Nick Paton Walsh
Trump has clearly remembered his experience from the 2020 killing of Iranian Quds force commander Qassem Soleimani. At the time, the lethal US airstrike was considered unprecedented, even reckless, but ultimately, Iran had limited force with which to respond and its retaliation had minimal effect.

The US president’s decision to strike Iranian nuclear sites on Saturday underlines how weak Iran is militarily once again. After a week of trading blows with Israel, its missile stockpiles are depleted and less effective than perhaps some analysts had anticipated.

The White House may have assessed that Tehran now has fewer options to hit back at the US than they had back in 2019.

Geneva talks: And finally, this is a clear indication the US felt the time-consuming diplomatic efforts Iran had engaged with over past years were not worth repeating. Friday’s Geneva meeting with European leaders yielded few results; Trump likely felt altering the realities of Iran’s program on the ground was a safer, faster, and better bet.

The outstanding question now is whether these strikes have effectively ended what remains of Iran’s nuclear ambitions and curtailed its chances of a bomb. If the answer to this is not a resounding yes, then Trump has caused himself a significant new headache.

US gave Israel a heads-up before striking Iran, officials say

From CNN’s Alayna Treene and Kristen Holmes
The US gave Israel a heads-up on its strikes in Iran before launching them, two officials familiar with the matter told CNN.

President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also spoke Saturday evening following the US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, two White House officials said.

Senate majority leader says US attack ensures ‘nuclear weapon remains out of reach’

US Senate Majority Leader John Thune says that he stands by Trump’s decision to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities.
“The regime in Iran, which has committed itself to bringing ‘death to America’ and wiping Israel off the map, has rejected all diplomatic pathways to peace,” Thune, the Republican representative for South Dakota, said in a post on X.
“As we take action tonight to ensure a nuclear weapon remains out of reach for Iran, I stand with President Trump and pray for the American troops and personnel in harm’s way.”
