US pursuing ‘long-term settlement’ with Iran: Vance​

Vice President JD Vance has claimed the US attacks had successfully set back Iran’s nuclear weapons programme, adding that Trump now hopes to pursue a diplomatic solution.
“We do not want to protract this or build this out any more than it’s already been built out. We want to end their nuclear programme,” Vance told NBC’s Meet the Press.
“We want to talk to the Iranians about a long-term settlement here,” he added.
As we’ve been reporting, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said the US strikes have blown up any possibility of diplomacy.

This question is a little bit off topic but strategically, why didn't Iran develop a navy or a submarine fleet?


They have access to a gigantic protected lake to practice on, and Iran has access to one of the biggest shipping lanes in the world through the ocean.



Subs would be almost impossible for Israel to bomb. And most of the US missiles are coming from the sea fleet. Now I understand that Iran has huge mountain ranges to hide in, but so does North Korea and they still invested heavily in destroyers and nuclear submarines to stop this exact scenario.

There isn’t really a need if your ships will get blown up.

What Iran needs to focus on is building ballistic and hypersonic missiles to blow up other countries ships in the Persian Gulf.

Naval analysts have been hinting that large vessels are increasingly becoming risky assets in a world of hypersonic missiles.
