US secretary of state calls on Chinese government to pressure Iran to keep Strait of Hormuz open

From CNN's Jennifer Hansler
If Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil shipping route, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Sunday, “The first people that should be angry about it are the Chinese government, because … a lot of their oil comes through there.”

“They should be the first ones that are saying, if they mine the Straits of Hormuz, the Chinese are going to pay a huge price, and every other country in the world is going to pay a huge price. We will too. It will have some impact on us. It will have a lot more impact on the rest of the world,” Rubio said on CBS News’ Face the Nation.

“It’s economic suicide for (Iran) if they do it,” Rubio said on Fox News.

Rubio added the US retains “options to deal with that,” but the move “would hurt other countries’ economies a lot worse than ours.” He said it would result in “massive escalation that would merit response, not just by us but from others.”
Apparently Trump and nem didn't think that through either. China might push for the closure to tie up US military resources in that region, so that China can take Taiwan. Either way it goes the USA is moving closer to having to put troops on the ground in Iran.

Btw Rubio is as dumb as shyt too claiming that closing the strait is economic suicide for Iran. That is the same logic as saying the tariffs were economic suicide for China. When in reality this crap is economic murder for American lower and middle class consumers. That is who foots the bills for this crap.

Suddenly a bunch of Kamala supporters came into this thread dragging it down with their "i told you so" nonsense.....Like she was some sort of anti-israeli candidate.

Meanwhile her VP pick was on the campaign trail saying shyt like "The expansion of Israel is an absolute fundamental necessity for the US”.

The two parties might disagree on Ukraine, LGBTQ, immigration and other issues.....but one thing they agree on over and over is unconditional support for Israel no matter what.

In case people are still confused.

Would we have bombed them? Maybe, maybe not. This mission was wargammed during Biden's term. We are owned by the Israelis.

Kamala would have went with the assassination regime change most likely. But make no mistake, we are gonna meddle in the middle east until we shake off Israel.

‘Euphoric, almost biblical language used in Israel to describe US attack on Iran’

Meron Rapoport, an editor and writer at Israeli news site Local Call, says there appears to be a universal sense of euphoria in Israel today following the US strikes against Iran.
“There is a feeling that it’s a great thing for Israel; I think most Israelis think like that, that this is a big moment,” he told Al Jazeera. “Some talk using euphoric language in order to describe, in almost biblical terms, what happened this morning in Iran.”
He noted, however, that at the same time people in Israel had to rush to shelters this morning due to an Iranian attack.
“The damage is not slight in Tel Aviv and other places in Israel, so there is also a lot of apprehension.”
Asked about what might have convinced Trump to join the Israeli air campaign against Iran, Rapoport argued that the “successful” Israeli attacks on Iran over the past nine days, should be seen as one of the reasons.
“I think Trump is a person that is looking to join the strongest side when he sees [it], he did it with Putin against Zelenskyy, and he did it elsewhere.”

25% of the world’s oil supply goes through that strait.

35% of the world’s LNG goes through that strait.

Europe is highly dependent on the LNG going through that strait. I feel like Europe has been getting screwed over by America’s actions, especially over the last few years.

I think Israel should cease ground operations in gaza completely.

I support Israel continue to put BELT TO ASS on Hezbollah and Iran and the Houthis.

They already got rid of Assad and smacked the Iranian proxies in Northern Iraq.

The last 18 months were a bad idea for Iran.
:russ: Fukk Iran. We know your biggest fear is hot water and soap you stinky cocksucker you.

25% of the worlds crude oil goes through the strait and a 3rd of Irans GDP comes from the strait as they export 90% of their oil through there as well.

The strait is extremely important for the global economy and nobody is going to push Iran to close it.

Iran’s economy is dominated by trade. Because nearly all of Iran’s oil export terminals and large ports are located within the Persian Gulf, Iran depends on the Strait of Hormuz for its economic well-being. Closing the Strait would certainly hurt the Iranian economy.

Like many other Persian Gulf countries, Iran’s economy depends on oil export revenues, the bulk of which traverse the Strait of Hormuz. Iran exports about 2.6 million barrels of oil per day, and oil export revenues account for some 85% of all Iranian government revenue. Due to insufficient domestic refining capacity[ii], Iran also relies heavily on the Strait for gasoline imports, estimated at 400,000 barrels per day.[iii]

Roughly 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports pass through the Strait of Hormuz each year,[iv] representing approximately 83 percent of all Iranian exports.[v] Iran’s oil export facilities are all located in the Persian Gulf. The only major oceanic port, Chah Bahar, has no deepwater piers (capable of handling large oil tankers) or pipeline infrastructure connecting it to Iran’s oil infrastructure. Therefore, Iran’s oil exports must traverse the Strait.

Iran also relies heavily on foreign imports to sustain itself. Between 2005 and 2006, Iran’s total imports grew from $29.5 billion to $38.1 billion.[vii] In that same time period, Iran’s imports of raw materials and intermediate goods grew by 38.7 percent, accounting for 47.8 percent of all imports in 2006 with an overall value of $16.8 billion.[viii] Iran’s imports of capital goods also grew to $12.1 billion in 2006, comprising 34.2 percent of total Iranian imports.[ix] Together, these imports accounted for 82 percent of Iran’s total imports and were valued at just over $29 billion in 2006.[x]

His words are clumsy and belligerent as always but he’s not wrong.
