- US President Donald Trump hints at possible regime change in Tehran, a day after striking Iran’s nuclear sites, saying, “If the current Iranian regime is unable to make Iran great again, why wouldn’t there be a regime change?”
- Israel and Iran continue to trade attacks, as the world braces for Iran’s response to the US bombardment of its nuclear facilities.
- Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi calls the US attack “unforgivable” and says Iran has “to respond based on our legitimate right to self-defence”.
- The UN’s nuclear watchdog says there have been no reports of increased off-site radiation levels following the US attacks on Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan sites.
- Iran says more than 400 people have been killed and at least 3,056 others wounded since Israel launched its attack on June 13. In Israel, at least 24 people have been killed in Iranian strikes.
Damage assessment: President Donald Trump claimed US bombers ‘obliterated’ three Iranian nuclear sites, and alluded to the possibility of regime change in Iran. Military officials in Israel and the US, however, are still assessing how significant of a blow it dealt to Tehran’s program.
Iran’s response: Tehran denounced the US and Israel at an emergency UN Security Council meeting. Its foreign minister said on Sunday his country has “a variety of options” for responding to the unprecedented US attacks. There has been no word yet from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
Iran-Israel conflict enters its 11th day: Both countries have continued to trade strikes. Early Monday, Iranian state-affiliated media reported Israel struck a large military complex in Iran. In Jerusalem, a CNN team was forced to evacuate to a bomb shelter during a missile warning.
Future US involvement: Top Trump administration officials insist the US is not at war with Iran, but Trump has warned the US could launch more attacks if Tehran does not make peace.
