I've been a practicing dentist for a few years now. Very rewarding but very stressful and at times depressing. Imagine hearing several times a day that someone hates coming to see you. Patient and staff management can be challenging as well.

Don't get into the field if you're looking to get rich, won't happen. You have to build wealth through other avenues. Bills is a bytch especially student loans.

But I will say that the respect that I receive from the community, especially from other African-Americans is awesome man.

Being a young BLACK male that's a DENTIST is inspirational.

I've been doing Healthcare on IT tip for close to ten years now. Dealt a lot with data, analytics, dasbhoards and that type of thing. Last company I was with focused a lot on crating algorithms that helped identify the most costliest patients. The doctor and insurance company would then come up methods to help them. For instance if someone uses the emergency room like it's their primary care office, you would work with them to get a better relationship with their doctor and talk to them first since an office visit is was less expensive than an ER visit.

So if you're not looking to work directly with patients/consumers or whatever, there are plenty of other options.
