Braveheart Party (one of his worst songs ever), Smokin, and My Country

The Flyest is on the weaker side of Nas-AZ collabs

Got Yourself… has always just been alright to me

Above Stillmatic, I have…
illmatic
Lost Tapes
IWW
KD3
Magic

Them I got KD2 fighting with Stillmatic for that 6 spot

Followed by some combo of Magic 3, LIG, and God’s Son

Braveheart Party wasn’t on my copy of Stillmatic so when I actually heard it yeeaaarrrsss later I couldn’t believe how HORRIBLE it was. Pairing Nas and Mary J Blige shouldn’t be anywhere as disastrous as that abomination of a song. The fact that the Source still gave the album 5 Mics is a testament to how otherworldly Nas was rapping on the rest of the album.

It ended up on my copy and I was like what the fukk is this. :scust: Automatic skip. The highs were so high that it didn’t damper the album experience. I just tried to forget that track existed. I think they also recognized it was awful which is why they removed it. But yeah I would normally expect absolute magic from Nas and Mary.

MJB requested that the track be removed, and Columbia obliged.

Not mad at this take. As a listen I actually prefer KD2, but I think the highs on LIG are higher. Black Bond, Where’s the Love, and Trust should have all replaced the 3 weakest songs on the standard release.

Yep. The bonus tracks are such standout cuts, I can’t believe they didn’t make the album.

There are moments on this album that give me goose bumps or make me emotional to this day. The last verse on Queens story when he references his moms or when the crescendo builds up World’s an Addiction or the second verse on Stay and the entirety of Where’s the Love?. Not to mention the intro and Locomotive.

When he didn’t get the Grammy for this album, it felt like when Denzel got cheated out of the Oscar for Malcolm X.

I’m STILL mad Drake won that Grammy over Nas. shyt makes my blood boil.

Now about the “bonus” cuts and all that. It was pretty much accepted that the deluxe version of LIG was the “real” version of the album back then. When you went to Best Buy or Target to purchase the CD they had more copies of the deluxe than the standard version. The deluxe also outsold the standard on iTunes. There was fukkery going on in the industry where labels weren’t paying artists for more than 12 songs on an album so a lot of popular artists were releasing “deluxe” editions I guess to combat or skirt that. Good Kid M.A.A.D City, Take Care, Dreams & Nightmares, Finally Famous, and Long.Live.Asap are some examples of big budgeted studio albums released within that era that had Deluxe editions released that were marketed as the “definitive” versions of the projects.

If you look at the reviews for Life is Good, most of the critics reviewed the deluxe edition. Nasty was the official first single and had a video. Nas talked about songs like Black Bond and Roses and their importance to the album.

Yup. I didn’t even realize the album ended with Bye Baby until years later.

I've seen some of the Wu brehs (Ghost, Rza, Meth) rep more for Nas than some of his QB brethren. Even Hav couldn't pick between Nas and LL in that Drink champs (not taking nuffin away from LL, he's one of the GOATs and one of mine), meanwhile Ghost going on a damn campaign to GOAT Esco.

Nas & Havoc are peers.

Havoc probably looked up to LL like a God.

A lot of rappers do.

Distant Relatives is such powerful and beautiful music

It should've gotten the publicity Recovery. MBDTF, or Teflon Don got that year

similar to capturing the spirit of NYC with Illmatic, NaS and Marley captured the spirit of Africa in a crazy way
