That's the thing, everyone who talks about Hanks' performance talks about the last scene, which is definitely some of the best acting this year but as a whole, his performance throughout the movie wasn't that noteworthy.
Agreed. I think that Hanks was actually out shown in this movie to be honest.

If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
I actually just finished watching Captain Phillips like 10 minutes ago. I don't think Hanks' performance warranted an Oscar nod at all (accent was horrible). I know this may sound blasphemous, but I actually thought the acting at the end was over done (i.e. "Yeah, yeah"). Hanks has some great crying scenes (e.g., The Green Mile, Forrest Gump, etc). But, I can't say this is one of them.

Now, I don't judge a movie's quality by the awards they won, but this list is the dumbest list I've ever seen!

Not just because some of those movies had absolutely no business of winning, but because they mention multiple movies for the same year. Like take 1976. They mention All The President's Men, Network and Taxi Driver. But what if Network had indeed won? Then ATPM and Taxi Driver would still have failed to win, so unless the dumb-ass maker of this list expected the Academy to go with a threeway tie, there's no way a 'snub' could've been avoided, completely negating the point he's trying to make.

If they shut up 12 Years a Slave like that....:wow:

I'm a little torn. I kinda hate how all of our black centered films are on some Help/Butler/Slave/Servant shyt...at the same time, I still like seeing these dudes successful.

I really want Steve McQueen to win for best director...just so we can get a black person being the best director filed. If he also took best picture that would also be nice.

Yeah, I know I really snubbed 12 years but those are just my opinions. I don't necessarily think the Academy will choose those. Best picture, Actor, Director and Actress were really hard to pick for me. 12 years was really good but I don't think it's going to be a movie that I rewatch and enjoy over and over, maybe just because of how sad/harrowing the picture is.

There Will Be Blood not on that list :comeon:

That's what I was thinking as I took a closer look at that list. It's actually a toss up between TWBB and NCFOM over what 07 movie was my favorite (*sips on milkshake*). It changes all the time. I also don't think whoever made that list took into consideration what movies did win BP that year. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest beat JAWS, Annie Hall beat Star Wars, Reds beat Raiders, and Silence of the Lambs beat BATB. But I'm not going to act like the Academy hasn't fukked up from time to time.

How Green Was My Valley over Citizen Kane? :comeon:
Dances With Wolves over Goodfellas? :dahell:
Forrest Gump over Pulp Fiction and Shawshank? :birdman:(But to be fair all three of those movies were worthy)
Crash over any other of the BP nominees the year it won (falling down stairs cures racism, brehs)?
The Kings Speech over Toy Story and The Social Network? :rudy:
