MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - In talks with the United States, Mexico has offered to send up to 6,000 members of its national guard to secure its southern border with Guatemala in order to contain migrant flows, according to two people with knowledge of the matter.

The news was first reported by the Washington Post.

Mexico has sent a delegation of officials to Washington to try to avert U.S. President Donald Trump's threats to impose import tariffs on Mexican goods if the country does not do more to halt the flow of migrants to the United States.

:whoa:I’m still pro free trade, and believe tariffs are a terrible idea.

But... I believe China is a completely dishonest actor and has been engaged in a trade war with the U.S. and other trade partners for a while now.
Trump is just the first president to fight back(albeit in a ill advised way).

The China fukkery was started by and continues because of China. Labelling it trumps trade war is just anti trump nonsense. The media should be pinning the trade war squarely on China... but trump hate dictates how and what they report now.
:yeshrug:

Kinda don't understand this quote, dishonest in what way. As well America can't claim any Lilly white innocence in fair global business practices as well. Cause the Japanese do have a shyt load of stories how there economy literally collapsed in a few years because America was getting their ass kicked once again by a country that made better product which increased there trade imbalance. American couldn't cut it and make better produce for cheaper and forced change down the Japanese mouths. China has every right to tell America to screw off and just make better stuff. Seems like history is repeating itself!

Now unfair do you mean pegging their currency or the trade deficit? I see the point with pegging their currency but the trade deficit that is squarely on American business owners.

I don't understand all these tariffs this isn't 1930 where America middle class was absolutely needed to do business.

Sometimes I honestly wonder if Trump has any business acumen at all, can't negotiate if you don't have leverage American middle class isn't what it was before. Countries can survive without it!

Also, a tariff is just a tax on the American middle class that doesn't have nearly as enough disposable income as before.

Trump is has no economic connection with the middle class. He doesn't even spend time with them.

There only connection is "sticking it to the libs", being bigots and projecting the narrative of the protective all knowing powerful white Male

Mexico said they will look to send troops to the Guatemalan border. It may stem Guatemalan immigrants who come through Mexico to get to the US(unlikely), but it won't stem actual Mexicans.

But yeah. Big victory.
