Agreed. We live in an environment now where you have 50 different sources say variations of reality on social media. Then depending on which source you want to believe, you make your own conclusions to fit your reality. These are dangerous times and there isn’t an easy solution for how to get out of this. Trump has played well on this and continues to get the benefit of the doubt from his cultists and even those allegedly opposed to him.

Your logic doesn’t follow, most of the Republicans in government would be ok with going to war with Iran, the only reason Trump is speaking out of the both sides of his mouth is to placate his base.
If a false flag happens where somehow Iran attacks Americans then his base will fall in line. Trump is just stalling for the opportunity to thread the needle without collapsing his base support.
You also can’t forget most of his base will follow him into the depths of hell so it won’t take much for them to be manipulated into consent

Again, when you say this is an example of Trump putting out conflicting narratives I think you're giving him too much credit. He's not some grand master strategist who is playing the world like a fiddle, he's running a dumpster fire administration that is caught in the middle of a changing foreign policy consensus. I don't know the accuracy of this report, but it doesn't strike me as impossible. Trump, like Biden, is not "calling the shots" in Israel so much as they have incredible amounts of leverage to influence Israeli actions. If the US President gives them an actual red line backed up with real threats (unlike the fake red lines that Biden gave them), they will most likely comply, which is probably what Trump did when they threatened to take the top off this conflict by assassinating the Ayatollah, throwing the global economy into chaos and hurting Trump's agenda. But Israel has shown unprecedented levels of insubordination to their American patron post-October 7th, so they're not waiting for explicit approval to take escalatory actions like the attacks in Tehran. International power politics are not so neatly delineated.
