objectively this is already playing *dramatically* smoother than everyone expected
you gotta imagine that people fully expected embassy bombings, mass kidnappings, dirty bombs, sinking ships, airjackings, cyber attacks, etc for decades when talking war with iran. there's barely mass protests worth mentioning and iran's own internet blackout - the shyt they do to keep unrest from getting out to the rest of the world - is actually hurting their ability to communicate human loss to undercut aggression.three service members for an ayatollah and defense minister along with everything else? ....the ugly reality is that every president would take it.
this is gonna go from duckworth's "i'm happy khamenei is dead, i just strongly disagree with going around congress" to modern warhawking narratives like "we've already made so much progress, we must finish the fight" that many are familiar with. and its already happening too.
once the shock of how palatable all this is sets in, and public tolerance gets assessed and tested, expect many in congress and other world leaders to jump in with whatever form of approval they can offer while trump gets to own the worst of it. there is no greater foreign and domestic political convenience than trump doing shyt that many would like to do, but can't do because they value their image.
We certainly agree. I’m not someone who believes any of this is about freedom. It’s about revenge and a strong disdain for these countries, their leaders and what they see perceived to stand for or do actually stand for.
Then there’d the pragmatic view that you don’t want your enemies to possess the means to get back.
