The Gulf pushed for this as well, it wasn't just Israel but they'll be the ones to catch the flack for it and be happy to.

I think one of the lessons to walk away from this with is that you shouldn't treat your neighbors like a dartboard like Iran has for decades if you can't back it up.

Hopefully future American administrations won't treat our real allies and the world at large this badly... the check always comes due

I don't think you comprehend. Donald Trump is responsible for this. As well as the Israelis. There were no merchant ships being harassed in the Strait of Hormuz prior to February 28.

The Iranians have done a lot of bad things but they are not irrational.

An illegal war of aggression brought instability. The Iranians telegraphed this for years. The Pentagon war gamed this a long time ago.

Iran has agency. They’ve chosen to act illegally and commit crimes against humanity. You can’t “harass”(torpedo, shoot ballistic missiles, and mine) merchant ships and the straight is in international water it is not Iran’s to “close” and they will be held accountable for their actions.

Iran absolutely has attacked and seized ships in the straight prior to February 28. Anyone can verify that. Not even up for debate.

Just because you or Iran considers the war to be illegal doesn’t mean Iran can throw all the books out of the window and we absolutely can not turn a blind eye to the atrocities that Iran has chosen to commit. The truth matters.

A few ships here and there in the last decade is not the same thing. Have you been to the Persian Gulf? I have! It has been a free area of navigation. I was on a ship near Iran while visiting the UAE and Oman two years ago myself!

Did they telegraph that this would be their response to the world superpower attacking them? Yes!!!

The entire Gulf didn’t push for this war. They were stressing diplomacy. Saudi and Iran had a detente with Iran brokered by Beijing in 2023.

MBS and MBZ want Iran defanged now that Trump launched this war but they weren’t gung ho about it as Israel is.

Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman are doing their own side deals with Iran now and attacks on all three are declining.

The GCC is not yet united on this. Turkey is trying to let cooler heads prevail because they correctly point out that Israel wants the Gulf on fire and to be cannon fodder for them against Iran.
