I don't mind having to pay a fair fee out of my own pockets to see if I'm a baby's father. Instead of having society do it for men, we need to teach men to have the common sense to do it for themselves

Happened to my old roomate. Was ordered to pay for a child that he thought was his but layer turned out was not.

Judge kept the child support order in place. He was sick.

Yeah it happens more than you think... the court's main goal is to ensure that the child has financial support from a father

I understand where you're coming from but... nope, sorry, fukk that.

There are so many LEGAL holds, bonds, and effects that come from declaring a man the father of the baby.
There is cost in that already. The government has no issue taking our money for shyt that doesn't matter anyway.
This matters.

If you are going to convict a man and take them to jail over the biological relationship he has with his "son", you better be able to damn well prove that it is indeed his "son".

It should absolutely be federal law unless the mother puts in writing to never claim anyone as the child's father (rape victims, abuse victims etc).

But, for the sake of discussion, I would like to hear what other arguments you have heard against it

Until mandatory dna testing becomes a thing I would suggest that all of you men tell the women you're with from jump that you plan on pursuing dna testing of any baby supposed to be yours. No need to be nasty. Explain it's business not personal.
Nothing to do with trust or any other phrase used to guilt you.

Not only is it your legal right to seek dna confirmation, it's your moral obligation for yourself and should be hers for her unborn child.

I knew someone who married a woman who had a daughter. The father of the child was not paying child support when he married her. Since he married the woman he treated the daughter like he would treat his own child. When the marriage didn't work the mother went after the stepfather for child support and was awarded it.. She never went after the biological father for child support either. The whole child support system needs to be revamped. Dudes getting straight jacked out here.

Yeah, it's called the equitable parent law, even if you aren't the biological father if you treat the child as a father would you can be held accountable.
