because youre talking about 'little ass cbs' in todays game. back then defenders hit hard everywhere and were far harder to separate and make plays over

jerry felt some of those hits too.

Ay breh, I'm purely speaking from the standpoint that Calvin Johnson's size + speed + playmaking ability is once in a lifetime and would have been even more rare back in the day. He would dominate and adjust to the game in any era. Those hard hitting defensive players are not going to affect him any more than it affected Rice, Irvin, Chris Carter, etc. The only difference is the offenses wouldn't be so pass heavy. But put Megatron with Montana/Young and he's still an all time great.

Skillset wise, absolutely. But he has to DO it for a career before you put him over the GOAT
No one decided to jump on this?!

Jerry Rice is arguably the greatest at each individual skill of playing receiver.
Calvin Johnson has the greatest physical gifts ever.

They are different, but too often lumped together.

Jerry's still the greatest followed by Moss in my ranking's but Calvin Johnson has an argument to top five status to me and he would ball out regardless of any era. Just like the DB's cant use there hands anymore neither can the receivers. So he would have that advantage too just like they would if he played in the 80's and 90's.

Irvin, Rice, Carter, Moss, Owens, Ginn, Boston, Glenn, Galloway , Gonzales, Posey, Hartline, Sanzenbacher, D. Miller, Philly Brown, Smith, and Holmes better. For real

I think Calvin is the greatest receiver from an athletic standpoint

6'5
Sub 4.4 speed
40+ vert :wow:

From a numbers standpoint, and the era that Jerry played in, he'll always be the best.

he played in an era where it was legal to press a receiver up to 10 yards down the field, and played for a team who didn't throw 30+ times a game.

There is nothing that Jerry did that Megatron can't do...better.

Calvin Johnson is a physical exception to every rule of the typical WR build. We've seen other big WR 's in college....Roy Williams, etc., but none of them carry over well to the NFL.

with Megatron, you can literally throw him the ball anywhere in his vicinity. He can jump and get it...then he can outrun your entire team and break tackles if necessary.

Nobody has never been able to do all of that at the WR position. Irvin was physical, Moss could jump, others had speed....Johnson has it all.
