First celebrity or hip-hop personality I thought of when I heard about Stan Lee's death was actually Pete Rock.

Pete is a colossal Marvel stan (pun intended).

One of Halftime Radio's last shows before DJ Eclipse retired it had him interviewing some cats from Marvel around the time they were unveiling the Marvel hip-hop alternate covers. And they were talking about how Pete Rock had the opportunity to visit their office one day and was one of the biggest Marvel fans they ever met. He could name every character on that big ass Marvel poster and knew just about every characters back story, alter-ego, etc.

Sean Price was just like that too. Eclipse said that one of the last emails he got from Sean Price was directions to get to either show or studio and you had to know the real names of certain characters to follow the directions. Eclipse is a Marvel head too.

But like others have said, DOOM is too creative to need Marvel or Stan Lee to make him. Obviously Marvel and FF4 play big in his creativity, but he's a 70s and 80s pop-culture nerd in general. If it wasn't Marvel he would have flipped some obscure TV or movie like he did with Monsta Island Czars and Godzilla movies.

And I get he's an acquired taste, but DOOM is easily in my top 10 and can crack top 5 depending on the day.

He defines the type of lyrcist who you might listen to a verse or song of his for years, and then suddenly one of his lines or references hits you like, "oh shyt" :ohhh:, I just now caught that.

Plus he drops some of the illest rhyme schemes heard without sounding forced.

This is a hip hop website where all we do is talk about our opinions :dahell:

You can't argue someone's place in history with a "But I don't like it". If you don't enjoy his music that's cool, but he's an underground hip-hop icon either way. Man I don't rock with Tech N9ne at all, but I'm not going to make a statement like "How could a dude who paints his face and raps fast be a hip-hop legend? That's whiteboy shyt". His accomplishments speak for themselves.

Ain't gonna lie, they have a point.

That's where he got his name and some of his persona from. However we would still have a Doom if there was no Stan Lee because his ability is out of this world. He would have been a legend either way if you ask me.

I mean....it's true in the most abstract sense of "his name wouldn't be MF DOOM" because Dr. Doom wouldn't exist....but they worded it like Stan Lee ghostwrote for him or something.

Who wrote this bullshyt.

Doom is a play off his name Dumile. nikka is just a typical hip hop nerd with mad creativity, he would have just flipped some other shyt better. :mjlol:

Like was already stated, lousy clickbait plus low key vulture article. Stan Lee was a great white man who wasn't racist, let's not make him MLK post humously :mjlol:

The article puts too much emphasis on Marvel and Stan Lee’s influence on the DOOM comeback but it definitely provided the starting point for the DOOM character as he was and is today. But like you said he probably would have come back with something else anyway, it’s just that this have him the perfect opporrunity to do it while hiding his face and all that, giving him exactly what he wanted at that point.

It’s just a click bait title to shove Stan Lee condolences into the news.
