Blackberry was generating billions at one point to.

Baseball demographics are old and white. It doesn't touch the young kids of north america. The twitter generation has no time for that archaic institution

A sport that is generating around 8 billion dollars a year is dying? Do you think before you post?

But overall, baseball isn't much fun to watch and it is a marketing thing, they haven't built up national stories/stars/and teams at this point the same way basketball and football has. I watch the WS when the giants played, but I wouldn't even know what/who I'm watching if I tuned in this series. If they tackle the marketing, that would help.
this is what Olbermann was saying.

Baseball is a local sport. Fans in that market care about their team, but there is no love for others.

I was talking to someone about this weeks ago. I legit dont care about AL baseball. I had no idea whats going on there. Im focused only on NL, and im probably more interested in other teams than most people.

Only.old white men who talk about the good old days when don Larsen threw a no hitter, and when I was young I'd turn on the radio and listen to Ernie Harwell call a game at tigers stadium care about baseball.

And the small segment of sabremetrics nerds.

The fact that baseball stuff is never trending on twitter should tell you all you need to know about its future.

LMFAO @ thinking Trending topics on tweeter is an indicator of anything

They just recently did a breakdown to see if the most talked about shows on Twitter was in relation to highest rated shows, and they weren't at all. VH1 Love and Hip Hop was top 5 most talked about shows on Twitter, and that shyt isn't even top 50 rated shows in any given week.

Y'all really say some of the dumbest shyt ever. Just say you don't like baseball. That's cool. But trying to act like they're struggling when they generate 8 billion dollars a year makes you look retarded.

Baseball is like congress. People dislike congress overall but they love their local congressman. Baseball has local love. Local viewership kills almost everything that's on when played. It's a different approach baseball takes from other sports. Comparing how they go about it to other leagues is trash. I like their model better honestly.

I swear nikkas in here are talking dumb. World Series ratings and NBA Finals ratings aren't the only revenue generator for each respective league. Nothing will compare to Super Bowl ratings because it's more of a national party than the actual game. The NBA is generating more revenue now than ever, it's not dying. MLB is generating around 8 billion dollars a year, it's healthy as fukk. Both leagues are in a good place with revenue. I swear y'all are the most "caught in the moment" nikkas I have ever witnessed.

So in 1996 when baseball was behind the NBA, what do you call that? Those numbers wern't sustainable and neither is this local tv bubble.

I can name three sitcoms that do better Locally! I can bet you any money because I know most people don't care about sports like that.

i guess, but the playoffs is supposed to be a showcase for the sport.

If you fans in New York arent watching because the Yankees and Mets didnt make it, that says something.

It's definitely limited, but all marketing Has limitations. I'd much rather rely on the 140 game plus local viewership as a league than relying in national viewership

Again, how are they dying when their revenue continues to grow? Isn't growing revenue a sign that it is in fact NOT dying, but rather is growing?
