I'm about to be 23 and when i'm sober i detest 95% of modern rap music, with the exceptions being a few Drake songs, Rich Forever mixtape & some others but I haven't really moved away from hiphop just accept that as a genre it is trash now & listen to the 90's classics and sh!t i grew up on in the 2000's.

lots of good posts in this thread, Im 28 and hip hop will never die out for me. There are new artists that I fukk with; Krit, Kendrick, J.Cole, Curren$y to name a few. Then there are the nikkas that always come with it like Nas and Scarface. Then there are my mid-level nikkas I fukk with Jeezy, Ross, etc. And the best thing about rap is there is always someone you slept on. Like last night I got my hands on some Ghostface I never heard before and :mindblown:. I will always love rap. :blessed:

i remember hearing The Message in the 4-5th grade like WOW!! i been on it since.. i love how hip hop is the modern day poetry.. even in ancient times the "poets" were ridiculed by the ruling class but yet AND still, they found a way to get The Message to the people..
i dig todays rappers tho.. see back then nikkas was trying they damdest to get heard.. mtv wouldnt even play micheaql jackson so how u think they looked at rap? then we got on tv.. then the radio.. then white kids got hold to it.. and so on.. now we here- got our own HIP HOP web forum setting trends for "customers" on twitter.. i love this shyt mane!!
yall boys got the torch from here.. just be mindful about the cats that laid the track before u got here dig? dont let them do u like they did us.. be smarter be better..

Old heads= 35 and up

How many have y'all just realized, that todays hip hop just isn't for you...and are ok with that? Not that it's so much worse, the rappers suck... but that it just wasn't for you

The majority of y'all seem like you're ok with staying in your lane...and don't worry about what's hot now, cause you're fine with being stuck in the mid 90's or late 80's.

I already know how many Big Mels are out there.... but what about the rest of y'all?

Some of you old decrepit posters drop a lotta gems on her.

@DANJ! used to have a blawg about the 90's.... but he don't be posting shyt no more
DanjLovesThe90s! | LET'S TAKE A SEC TO THINK BACK…

Just looking to see when y'all came to terms with this, and do y'all still purchase new music from the older rappers, or are y'all just bumping that old shyt?

And miss me with that "back in my day, hip hop wasn't gay.....cause your era is notorious for how many closeted homos it had....and y'all had Biggie.
I came to terms with it back in 06 07 when the d4l's and dem franchise boys were droppin singles. Along with souljah boy. I listen to other genre's though like house jazz
Soul rock etc. I do check out for kendrick ab-soul skyzoo joey badass etc. Its still some good music out there just harder to find. I'll never abandon hip hop though. Our era has been over so long ago. But i give props to nas for still doin his thing after all these yrs. Along with some of the other vets. Talib and emand slaughterhouse lettin me down though lol.

im 29 but the older i get, the more i realize hiphop is, for the most part, garbage.

i mean at first it was a report of fukked up shyt going on in the hood put to music. to sort of raise awareness (the message).

then somewhere along the line, nikkas started BRAGGING about the fukked up shyt going on in the hood.

first it was "damn shyt is fukked up we got killers and crackheads out here and our people are suffering"

then.. "yea nikka im a killer and i sell crack even tho my momma is a crackhead"

shyt just became straight garbage to me.

sure theres some great songs. im a huge biggie and jay z fan and still am even tho i never listen to rap anymore.

but ya gotta admit, shyt is ignorant as fukk and i blame the majority of ratchetness and ignorance going on today on hip hop.

ill even go as far as to say, hip hop has done more against the black community's image than it has done for it. sure a couple nikkas get rich, but how many nikkas get killed by some 14 yr old that just finished listening to nwa or c murder or uncle murda, or any other "gangster" rapper.

shyt needs to go in the bushes.

Im about four years away from 35 but I like to think I have adapted with the times when it comes to rap music these days. I know it will never be like it was in that early to mid 90's era with rappers actually making music instead of just a song, rappers putting thoughts into their lyrics, and rap and r&b collabs not sounding forced. Now its all about having a banging beat, a great hook and having lots of punchlines. So knowing that I cant say its passed me by because I don't expect the greatness that was dropping in my younger days. There are still a few cats I like but most of the time i'm disappointed in these new acts that they hype up to be next. As long as I can listen to songs from back in the day to remind me of the good times I will never let this era or any other that comes out of it turn me away from rap.

I'm 27. I don't fukk with Pac and Ye is the GOAT.

I listen to all these young nikkas out and I know they suck, but the beats and hooks I enjoy.I take this shyt for what its worth.I ain't paying for nothing so I know it ain't worth shyt.Ill prolly buy Ye new album and John Legend that's it.Last album I copped was Rhianna for my girl and Lana Del Ray for me.

Even these nikkas who suppose to lead the underground are wack.Joey Badass and Action Bronson are garbage. There is literally no difference from Mac Miller and Earl Sweatshirt.Hip Hop is wack right now.

I look @ a guy like Kendrick Lamar and im impressed, but he ain't doing nothing like T.I did on Trap Muzik.

The game too watered down and corny in general. Bunch of effeminate dudes trying to act tough. No matter how you look at it, folks would get challenged back day, now it's "You're a hater go head and let this man wear a dress and strapless bra and slob the next mans meat if he want to, his album still bangs"

Game was better all around when there was aggression, not all this passive aggressive hommo thug stuff.......

V-Necks done went to rappers wearing shirts that J-Lo would have rocked when she was wit Puff.......and it comes out in the music and in the culture in general.

Lack of integrity and authenticity is the issue.

So what's the general consensus? Was 1995 the last year hip hop was by and large pure? 1996?

Im 32 and i realized the only young dudes i like are Kendrick, Krit and Drake. But even them nikkas are only 6 years younger than me and plus they sound JUST like some of my favorite rappers from the past ie Bone Thugs, UGK, Phonte, Kanye. The young nikkas like Chief Keef and his crew make me want to smack the first crack baby i see.

When i was 16-20 I was listening to people that will go down as legends. Biggie, Pac, Kast, Face, Nas....now these 2013 dudes have Gucci, Young Scooter Wacka, Keef, Wiz....
