I'm a old head and I luv hip hop still. Before I get into why...I gotta chastize nikkas saying hip hop passed them bye.

Hip hop is my generations baby...HOW THE fukk CAN MY BABY PASS ME BYE?!

I will ALWAYS listen to hip hop first and foremost...fukk I look like listening "seriously" to that other shyt? Now a song or two from other genres gets play as a change of pace or when in the mood, but 99.8 percent of my rotation is hip hop.

Most you nikkas talking bout you outgrew hip hop were not true fans, yall were pop fans. Yall are those white guys who were going thru a "thing" but grown and running daddys company now. You have to rub elbows with people who never liked hip hop and you're SHAME that you liked hip hop.

nikka like me in the suit and tie world and still hip hop like a muthafukka...make them cacs nervous and some as politely as possible ask me what am I doing in their world. I make sure my grill show and make my lips ashy as possible as I inform them, "You can't judge a mans intelligence by his appearance". As they get to know me they realize my brain power dwarfs theirs!

Stop c00ning and being ashamed of hip hop.

See most of you don't know enough songs that show why hip hop is the best music form ever. You are stuck on what's on free radio. Update to XM...I'm listening to xm45 as I type this and bytch hip hop not dead! It just went back to how it was meant to be...to raw for radio.

You nikkas forgot or never knew that hip hop is people asking you, "What is that you're playing?" See yall listening to stuff everybody and their momma listening to. You shouldn't pull up next to a cac and they know who you playing! Most importantly, broads shouldn't know and recognize what you playing!

Everytime a bytch get in my truck, they ask, "Who's that?" Yall nikkas so busy simping these hoes yall have compromised your hip hop!

If a nikka not on his shyt he won't know what I'm playing either! But the shyt bumpin!

Hip hop was about puttin the sheep up on hot shyt...not following them..

brother you made my night with this prolific post

Im a old head and hip hop hasnt passed anybody up, its what you been or haven't been looking for as far as music.

As a young head you had to dig for hip hop, today is no different.

take 2Chainz for example, 10 years ago... he was nothing more than the tall DTP flunky in the back of the videos....he found his niche, honed his craft and then went on a heavy mixtape grind to get himself to the point where he is now.
I wouldnt call that talent.

If it was talent, he would have gotten a deal when duffle bag boys dropped.

I'd call it perseverance and hustle.

You can use Jay with the same argument.

Nicca been seen since 88' didnt get "on" till 96'.

Even Jay said he was gonna "retire" after reasonable doubt. :manny:

My Pops Forever RIP
dont take music so serious, it wont pass you by.

This.

The ones upset about hip-hop passing them by are the ones upset that hip-hop doesn't necessarily cater to them primarily anymore. Why else do people deify Life Is Good? Because it was an album made for fans that grew with Nas. Why else do people like Big K.R.I.T. so much? Because half the time he sounds like a UGK tribute act so it sparks nothing but introspection and nostalgia. Same with even a young kid like Joey Bada$$.

People also have to remember, hip-hop was born out of an incredibly volatile time in this country's history. The things that surrounded the hood and surrounded rap is what sparked so much. Now, hip-hop's at a point where it's complacent. It's comfy. On one hand, it's kinda nice that there are more kids not growing up with these dire circumstances (and also that the ones that ARE dealing with shytty circumstances may have another way out other than just rapping). That's gonna mean that the music takes the hit.

I'll always listen to hip-hop. There's always someone new and interesting to listen to. Hip-hop's just more draining to listen to now. The sheer volume of music that comes out makes it such a challenge to pick what you like and then treasure it. I'm sure if Biggie put out mixtape after mixtape, we wouldn't like Juicy as much because we would have been saturated with 60 other songs. It is what it is.

*late-ish 20s*

I find myself listening to more instrumentals and beat-oriented music in the last 2-3 years. Still about 75-80% Hip-Hop tho.

Aside from a handful of new rappers that are genuinely good, I find myself feeling apathetic to most of them. In one ear out the other, not TERRIBLE necessarily, or even bad, but just ....blah in every way. Its like, shut up and let the beat ride out...

I'll still check for the old :flabbynsick: rappers I grew up on, but Im getting a bit tired of them too. I dont want to listen to old music too much and ruin it for myself. I'll even go as far as avoiding recent material from a favorite MC because I know itll be a disappointment

Basically my standards have been lowered and raised at the same time if that makes any sense. I still try to stay current cause theres always something I like thats new, but its mostly disposable and transparent to me now having listened closely to Hip-Hop for like 15 years. Trends are obvious and blatantly transient....collaborations and "movements" are predictable and forced...the whole phony "grassroots" thing is despicable etc etc

The talented rappers now (Cole, Wale, K Dot) sell the most cause people from 2011 onward got fed up with the bullshyt that the mainstream is feeding them. This backlash of the talented people getting the most support and most overseas tours is gonna hit hard within the next couple of years. Hip Hop from 05-2010 was damn near not listenable outside of a few artists like Kanye, etc.

Now, when the likes of French and Keef flopping hard, only so long the radio will support it until they are forced to support young MCs with talent again.

im 29 but the older i get, the more i realize hiphop is, for the most part, garbage.

i mean at first it was a report of fukked up shyt going on in the hood put to music. to sort of raise awareness (the message).

then somewhere along the line, nikkas started BRAGGING about the fukked up shyt going on in the hood.

first it was "damn shyt is fukked up we got killers and crackheads out here and our people are suffering"

then.. "yea nikka im a killer and i sell crack even tho my momma is a crackhead"

shyt just became straight garbage to me.

sure theres some great songs. im a huge biggie and jay z fan and still am even tho i never listen to rap anymore.

but ya gotta admit, shyt is ignorant as fukk and i blame the majority of ratchetness and ignorance going on today on hip hop.

ill even go as far as to say, hip hop has done more against the black community's image than it has done for it. sure a couple nikkas get rich, but how many nikkas get killed by some 14 yr old that just finished listening to nwa or c murder or uncle murda, or any other "gangster" rapper.

shyt needs to go in the bushes.

The problem is that the family structure is fukked up. At least I had a married mother and a father growing up on some Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, etc., but today's parents of teens grew up on gangsta/ ratchet bullshyt with their moms and their (half) siblings out of wedlock living on bullshyt.

im 25 and ive accepted it ... shyt will never be back

the game really did just turn into "average nikkas talking"

only the people who have no idea about it, fight for it

I also realized wutang makes the same song over and over and hides behind religion. Luckily Rza kept them together and made them cult status

but be real, wutang is garbage outside of older cds, ghost dont write his own rhymes, rza been jacking shyt for like 7 years, raekwon had his bodyguards beat up joe budden all because methodman cant speak for himself. methodman derailed redmans career. gza is dope but he never drops ... they got all these fake mini groups and its all the same shyt over and over ... peace god, and peace and religion and then violence then pro black, that shyt is mad phony and contrived now. ODB was the only thing going for them and they left him alone. ODB was the only one growing and saying whatever he wanted, not just the same brainwash bullshyt

I don't get what "today's Hip Hop" is.

There has always been wack shyt out. It's just that these days, there's a lot more of it to go around. The culture hasn't changed, it's just that older cats have different standards, higher standards for the most part of what's dope and what's not. They have more history with the music, so they have more to compare it to, than someone younger. That's expected, but music can't "pass you by".

It's all about what you've been exposed to. It really doesn't matter what age you are, most cats know wack shyt when they hear it.

Call it ignorance, but i will always have hope that there will be some artists from any generation that i can f*ck with. Right now TDE are a breath of fresh air for me. KRIT got soul i feel it in his music. Skyzoo too. I f*cks with Nipsey and J Cole, i know both get hate (especially the latter) but they both remind me of the 90s/2000s to a certain extent. There will always some keeping hip hop alive for me.

I listen to so much music i'll always hope a dime is found....its just the ratio's for success are at an all time low. With that said, for the most part i listen to n*ggaz i grew up on and its still the same nikkaz putting out that heat.

The n*ggaz that are supposedly hot right now, most of them are wack to me. It does annoy me when there fans elevate them to god like status (Drake) but i guess each to their own. Some artists (Chief Keef) i genuinely dont understand the hype, but whatever.

Music is a thing a beauty. There is so much classic material out there made over the years i will never be without it, it follows me everywhere.... Reggae, Soul, Jazz and hip hop.

I'm not 35 yet, but I'm what you consider an old head

I'm ok with the current state of hiphop simply because I only listen, without any prejuidice, to what apeals to me. I don't give a fukk what the (stupid) public listen to or watch. I have an ipod/macbook with internet connection/dvd player, so I don't need a radio or tv to tell me what "OTHER PEOPLE" think is hot.

Matter of fact, hiphop today is better than it used to be in the early-mid 00s. Underground hiphop fell off a lil bit, but as far as mainstream, the hot rappers today are more talented than hot rappers of the past decade.
