When hip hop still had distinct regional sounds that when it was good. So much variety

Like from the late 90's till the mid 00's you had east coast nikkas who were still doing them, the south was on the rise and even within the south there were different styles depending on the city the artists were coming from. You had the Midwest and the West coast still doing their own style of hip hop.

Right now even though regionalism is pretty much dead, rap is nothing more than a duplication of the next song. Everyone need to have a mike will beat and that fake ass high ass soft ass Drake wannabe voice. shyts trash G.

I mean, I'm product of my generation so Naturally I fux with guys like future, 2 chainz, ye, some lil wayne but I have ears and I know when shyt gets redundant.

That's my main problem with hip hop right now...everybody sounds the same...rapper A got the same producers as rappers B.C.D.ETC so what make an artist special...but most ppl will take honest criticism has u hating on the youth or you hating on the south and that's not the case..cats just care about the artform..and yes especially olders cats cuz we had yrs to grow it...

Rappers use to always have in-house producers or their own go to guy. Like you could always tell the difference between a Roc-a-fella artist and Ruff Ryder artists or a Cash Money artist.

But now people just use who ever is the hottest at the moment. Not that its wrong because rappers have always done that to an extent, but like I said it just makes everything sound the same.

Im 25 and i lost interest around 2010-11 but than towards the end of 2011, I started gettin into Future, French Montana. Kendrick started gettin really hot(even though i've been a fan) Rich Forever dropped.
Than Keef and the whole drill sound came out of no where and I love hip hop again

I'm 28, 29 in October and I've accepted it. Doesn't bother me, I listen to what I like and could care less. I'm too old to give a shyt about whats hot or what people think about what I listen to. The older I get the more I branch out into other genre's.

Though I did like Good Kid Madd City.

Just hit the big 3-5, and I like some of the new generation. Love Kendrick Lamar, and really the whole TDE camp although I'm still yet to really check J-Rock. Love Curren$y's music. Love A$ap's music. I like everything from Cudi with the exception of Indicud(That sh!t is trash) Minus the bull sh!t, Gunplay reminds me of Pac. He might actually be a problem after listening to Bible on the Dash. That's the closest I've heard anyone come close to channelling Pac in years.

And I know everybody's got a guilty pleasure, and every era in HipHop has had a guilty pleasure, and Trinidad James' music is one of mines. I brushed dude off until I heard that Females Welcomed joint. Caused me to check out the mixtape which is actually alright. Surprised me.

I like this some of this generation's producers too. Love Harry Fraud, and Clams Casino. I dig all that Runners, Justice League, etc.. production too.

Hiphop is very much alive. Granted, there's plenty of fukkery and garbage music out there, but that's always been the case. It's gonna get worse now that every talentless idiot that thinks he can rap has internet access. At the same time though, there's gonna be plenty of youngins coming up that are gonna put out good music.

For the record Drake is still a faqqet.

I'm seeing a lot of ppl saying they branching of into other genres which is cool but I see the love for the art fading as a result of the current crop of big name rappers...as guess that's why some older cats fight it so hard..that feeling I had in 95 bumping illmatic..cuban links..the infamous...I never thought it would leave..

still, there's so much good from the past and and present that it's still worth it, just don't think that radio and video is all there is

I'm 30 and this is pretty much how I feel about it. I've started to look at music the same way I look at video games though. When I was younger I had TIME to invest in listening to music, figuring out what was worth listening to, and rocking out from there.

Now I have time to maybe pluck 2 or 3 songs off the major releases of the year and keep it moving. The quality of the music doesn't help, but honestly even if it were of a higher caliber I probably wouldn't be that heavily invested in it.

Not to mention I'm not nearly as interested in fantasy bars/being hard/keeping it real as I was when I was a kid.

I'm 30 going on 31, but I lost interest in most things current hip hop starting last year. I'm from the DC area, and was listening heavy to WKYS & WPGC since I was little, but right around 2011, I started to listen to more and more online radio like AOL & Pandora, and then eventually I just stopped listening to everything current. I now either listen to old school hip hop, rock or sports radio. Current mainstream hip hop is dead to me, and radio is unlistenable today. I just don't care for Drake, 2Chainz, French Montana, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, etc This new crop of mainstream rappers is EXTREMELY wack I only give props to J Cole, Kendrick & Joey Bada$$, because they are not like the other wack artists of today.

Not at the OP old head age yet and personally I download dam near EVERYTHING even if I don't listen to it, just in case there's a track or two that pops up and to have a collection, but for the most part I don't get excited about no releases anymore, and this may not be the popular thing to say on this site but I have no problem with Drake. To me he stays in his lane. Lil B and ish like that though I still have a hard time believing some yall support some of that ish seriously. Can't say I have lost interest though. I was raised on hiphop and R&B so I cant see myself not listening. Lil Reese Mixtape get HEAVY play from me in the gym.

Corporations and sell outs took over hip hop and monetized it to new heights which was fine until the integrity of the music dropped. Now not to many artist care about the music and they tell us every chance they get. "There all about the money" and could give a shyt about rhyming making since or having a real point as long as they can get with a team tour or get some type of deal. So everyone will work with the same artist and producers trying to get "hot" or regional fans and get money like whoever else they believe is doing it big. There's hardly any messages or real social commentary going on any more just alot of fairy tales passed off as reality which you can argue has always been the case but atleast ish was somewhat believable or based on true events at a time. Its really like the music doesnt matter anymore for alot of artist. Seems like just a way to keep there name around while they do other shyt no one even selling records like that anymore cause of the internet combined with the poor quality.
