My grandpa was asking me what would I want for a xmas gift. Took me to the PX and we copped a Game Gear with Sonic & Power Rangers. Then he was all like "This will be a good gift for that girl down the street. Thanks for helping me figure out a present for her. " I was livid. I wanted to kill him, her, and her parents. I was pissed for weeks. Xmas day comes around and im all like :stopitslime: cuz I knew that bytch down the street was getting a game gear and I was getting some socks or some other dumb shyt. I open up a few presents and start seeing red. Then the last one was this big ol box. It was the game gear with the games AND the magnifying glass with a pack of 32 AA batteries. My grandpa was lookin at me like :troll:. It was then I realized I had an anger problem because I still wanted to kill everyone for lying to me but I was too busy trying to beat Power Rangers to act on it.

Video stores and parents, breh. Money wasn't an issue with me. :usure:Honestly, I don't remember prices being that high on video games. I thought they were always in that $40-60 range.

I sure did want Ridge Racer for Genesis though but that shyt was like $100 when it came out in '95. :dahell:

Neo Geo is the GOAT console for 2D fighting games bruh. You might not have heard of the console but I'm sure you've heard of these games:

1- Metal Slug
2-Samurai Showdown
3-World Heroes
4- Fatal Fury
5- King of Fighters
6-Last Blade
7- SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos

These were true arcade ports to a home console during the 16 Bit era.

You had to be crazy rich to have one of these back in the day

Atari Jaguar had a new Tempest game & an Aliens vs Predator game that were ok

i dont know about you nikkas..i knew NO ONE in real life that that had this console in their homes because it was so fukking expensive...the only time i ever played anything neo geo related was at the arcades lol

Y'all younger generation miss out on a lot because of technology. nikkaz used to get together and have tournaments back in the day, shyt didn't matter if it was sports, fighting, whatever. 10 people, weed, junk food and ONE TV. shyt was some of the most fun I ever had as a kid.

The shyt talking, roasting sessions, just straight ignorance/fun was great

on rainy day kids in the neighborhood would go into the house of somebody in the late 80s and early 90s..this held us down

Me too. I used to play World Heroes & Samurai Showdown in a laundromat where I lived. Remember there were about 3/4 games you could play in that single cabinet?

Back in the day unless it was a top tier game or an RPG, you were better off renting from Blockbuster or Hollywood Video. Even used games were 20-50 bucks.

The prices arent that bad.. The major thing is that now we paying with OUR money so its different.. When we were kids saying Mom/Dad can you buy so-and-so, we have no idea or care what it costs..
Now that we the parents and want to buy our own games and maybe some for our kids ... only now are these prices to damn high..

And to that other poster ... I forgot the name... I had a PC in 86 (tandy).. then got a C64 in 88 and the games started... Eagle Soft cracked nearly every game i had...
Using a hole puncher to make your single sided 5-1/4 double sided... ... the good ol days

When we first got a computer, man we had that 2400 baud modem. Had to dial in when you wanted to use the internet. There wasn't even a world wide web yet. You had to individually dial into BBS boards. They were made in ASCII and you basically navigated with DOS commands. I remember it took like all day to download some games that would fill 2, 3.5" floppies and when my mom found out we were on the internet all day, she would chase us with the belt, because calls couldn't come through without dialing in with a special script or prefix. In high school in the mid-90s we upgraded to 14.4K and it came with a special script that would boost it to 19.2K speeds. Youtube or any other site with video was impossible. Yall have no idea how slow that is. When we got to college and got T1 speeds in the dorms, :banderas:. That's when Napster blew up(Music sharing service for you youngins) That was when MP3s, Ipods, etc all blew up.

I see that component rack stereo too :banderas:. Used to want one badly. But receiver tech was growing quickly and casettes and records were :camby:, so people just started going with a receiver and a mini stereo for cassettes and CDs. Miss that clean sound from those component racks though.

Dont forget about when you had to download an album 1 track at a time.. no zip files back the.. and you better pray you got all the songs before the links got removed...

That's why I laugh when people call devs "lazy" or say gaming is expensive now with DLC.

Gaming is cheaper then ever and games have more content/effort from devs than ever before.

You complaining fukkers should be happy at gaming in 2015 :smh:

My parents bought one game for Easter and two for Christmas, that's it. If we got lucky we'd get a game for our birthday. I played the shyt out of sonic and altered beast. :wow:

True that.

You got games for Easter tho? I don't know too many folks that celebrated Easter that hard to get any gifts outside of easter church clothes, lol. But yeah, my yearly gaming set up was about the same, cept that as I got older, I was typically able to get more games for christmas around PS1 era cuz games on disc took the prices down from the cartridge era. So I went from 1 game for birthday, 2 for Christmas and the occasional 1 for honor roll reward to potentially 2 games for b-days and the highest amount of games I got for Christmas rose to 4 games on a couple years, due to that being about all I'd ask for outside of getting clothes n miscellaneous shyt, since toys weren't really a thing by teen years.

My brother and I ddidn't ask for much. But every so often we'd ask our parents for a video game and they had no problem getting it for us. When Christmas came though :wow: they hooked us up. Got us both gameboys so we wouldn't fight, our own games for the snes and such.

My parents did so much for us :salute:
