Like I said I grew up poor. I went to school in the inner city. The Kansas City, Missouri school system was notoriously....eventful, in the 80's and 90's.

Regardless, you had a very good childhood breh. Most people didn't have access to computers in '93.

Fred.
Yeah, true. Thanks. Sucks about KC, breh. Maybe the mid-atlantic/east coast was just more up on the shyt or something?

The 12th Dimension
With a household of six with a father who was a 2nd Class Petty Officer in the Navy with a stay at home mom we couldnt afford the latest games and consoles.

Lets see...we didn't get an SNES until 1994 (it was a gift from my Grandmother) and the only games we had for a awhile were Super Mario World and Street Fighter II :whew: we lucked out and got two of the best games back then. Later on of my Grandmothers tenants left his copy of Mortal Kombat II :win:.

Next we didn't get the N64 until my bros birthday two years after its release. Still we may not have been able to afford a lot of games but we made due with the classics like Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, and Banjo Kazooie. (Parents dont know shyt about games so we lucked out again when they got my bro those games)

Then came the Playstation. I dont know when (a few months after its launch) but we got the PSOne
Sony%20PSone.png

and I feasted on any JRPG I could find at Rhinos, they would sell anime, wall scrolls, and a decent collection of JRPGs until they were changed into a Gamestop. I actually cant even remember why my stingy parents got us one, but bless them for it.

:shaq2: Then my brother went into a rage (I forgot what he was playing) and threw the controller breaking the motor that would make the disc spin.

Fortunately for my poor ass the PS2 came out and I was able to buy the OG Playstation from a friend since he was upgrading.

We eventually caught up and got a PS2 and then an XBox in the mid 2000s.

It wasnt until I was 18 when I could afford to scramble what cash I had to build my own PC. (:mjlol: I remember having everything set up and pressing the power button and hearing those bios beep codes indicating I fukked up somewhere; I spent hours on the net trying to figure out what the code meant and since I was using what little cash I had I was very careful with deciding part needed replacement.

So during my childhood and adolescence we only got consoles and games as gifts or we would trade them in at Gamestop and see if we could find anything of quality.

Basically we weren't poor, my parents were just cheap and would wait for months/year after a launch.

Dont even get me started on computers and getting the internet.:beli:

Most of those prices aren't even outlandish.

Well...the non-Genesis games anyway :dame:

I just bought the games I really wanted. It wasn't like I owned every good game that came out (like I do now). Maybe 10 games a year max (and that would be a good year). Now I just buy whatever. Being an adult with disposable income :blessed:

Not being married and not having kids helps out a lot too.

Then you were a :flabbynsick: 19 year old, breh. By 96 I was playing CD Rom PC games. Dunno why ur acting like this shyt was a rarity. BTW Mom Dukes just texted me that we had satellite internet at our apartment complex during that time 92-97
I had internet from comcast that was basically DSL (always on internet but used cables and not wireless) before DSL became a thing everyone knew about.

I was an average 19 year old. It's possible you were either rich, or your parents spoiled you.

Did you have it on PC? Did you have a computer, and the internet? Yeah....that doesn't mean it was common.

World Development Indicators - Google Public Data Explorer

20% of the U.S. had internet in 1997. Like I said, not even close to the norm.

24% of the U.S. had a PC in 1994. Again, not the norm:

Granted I grew up kinda poor but I knew literally nobody with a PC in 1994. But then again neither did most of the U.S.

Fred.
Every school had computer labs in the 90's and kids were required to type up all their projects using a computer and printing out the shyt. I dont believe nobody knew anyone with a PC in 1994 when they were putting "go to disney.com" on the back of VSH tapes.

When I was a kid you had ONE console so you had to decide. Once I got an SNES that meant I couldnt dare ask for a Genesis.
It was about decesion making. So I know I get one game with the system... I got Link to the Past (Zelda) instead od Super Mario World cause everyone had Super Mario World so I could just borrow it. I got like maybe 4 or 5 games a year. Xmas, Birthday, etc... so the video store (Blockbuster video 20/20) was extremely important so you knew which game you wanted to own vs which games you wanted to spend $2.50 to rent each weekend.

:wow: Back then which games you had was its own video game.

Summer jobs after school ended and constantly trading/borrowing games is how I got by. $50-$60 plus bucks for some damn sega genesis games. Man that is one era of gaming I look back on and shake my head in disgust at.

Dreamcast and video game stores changing their pricing models somewhat was a blessing

50 inch for 1800 ???:wow::wow::wow::wow:

Everybody damn near had AOL and this weak ass computer combo...2400?????

best_buy_ad_1996_5.jpg

That trash 11 inch display computer for 2500???

I know money was worth more back then but cot damn....

No one I knew shopped at best buy or circuit city for games. They were the sears/jc penney of their time with those inflated prices. If I couldn't buy it, I would either trade or borrow. Trading and borrowing games was BIG in my time from elementary school to early high school. If I was desperate I would rent games from a local video store or blockbuster

And back then the news was hating on video games so you had to convince your moms to buy you Killer Instict and Mortal Kombat without ever letting them see you play it... :lupe: Or they'd be like WTF is this??

And back then your console was connected to the living room TV... :lupe:

shyt was real back then young brehs

That's why I laugh when people call devs "lazy" or say gaming is expensive now with DLC.

Gaming is cheaper then ever and games have more content/effort from devs than ever before.

You complaining fukkers should be happy at gaming in 2015 :smh:

My parents bought one game for Easter and two for Christmas, that's it. If we got lucky we'd get a game for our birthday. I played the shyt out of sonic and altered beast. :wow:

Hell yeah...same here bruh. I had altered beast and sonic for what seemed like forever. That was a christmas and birthday gifts. I lost my damn mind when my folks brought home coach k basketball, street fighter, and mortal combat. And those were spreaded out over special days.

Me and my mom gamed a lot throughout the Nes/SNES era.

Momma was really hit or miss with her selections tho...

Copped SMB3:blessed:, then turn around and cop milon's secret castle:sadcam:

Copped Donkey Kong:blessed:, then turn around and cop Snow White :scust:

Video rentals and trading with friends save me.

I remember my uncle just having the Secret of Mana just laying around the looking at me like
:troll:

Little did I know that that was the beginning of one of the best gaming experiences that I could remember.
:wow:
