Exactly...Cube made Jacking for Beats years ago. Hell Das Efx took a Lord Finesse beat (Funky Technician) and killed it (They Want Efx).

Point is...people have been doing this for years, but isht got outta hand on mixtapes cuz ppl. got lazy.

There are HUNGRY and great producers right here on this site, why not reach out to them for mixtapes?

Once again it's NOT ABOUT RAPPING OVER OTHER PEOPLES BEATS MAN. It's sample clearance for a free tape. Those hungry producers can't supply sample based beats if they have to pay for sample clearance.

i thought the frank ocean thing was dumb...but they were suing because frank was performing the song and making money off it.

this could fukk up a lot of mixtapes if everyone has to get sample clearance like they do for albums.

-The suit was because miller was performing these songs in concert. :stopitslime: your making money off their work and now you wanna be cute about it.

-Let them have their music. It will just force artist to be more creative and use original production. Samples aren't even needed anymore. They can afford instruments, studio, even to make your own music is easy as fukk nowadays. Not like before where they were forced to use old records.

soo...these "old heads" should have ppl. profit off of them and they make nothing?

At least shout out the person who originally produced/composed the song. When rappers put on albums they have to that.

These guys keep trying to disregard this. They keep bringing up the fact that mixtapes are free and they dont make any money off of it. Thats bullshyt. If you getting paid 5-10k off show money there was something that led you to that point. Rappers arent rapping over acapellas. If I as a producer ripped vocals from other rappers and threw it over my beats and blew up off that and was performing those songs, Im sure rappers going want a lil kickback from that as well.

That's the thing, any hip hop head KNOWS that's a j dilla beat wiz went over and a finesse beat for mac...like come on man.

and i can't stress this enough, THIS IS NOT EVEN ABOUT GOING OVER OTHER RAPPERS BEATS. This will set a precedent for sample clearance for FREE tapes.

But the problem is "real hiphop heads" only make up a small percentage of these guys fanbases. Im willing to bet money that more people who listened to Mac Millers music thought that was an original beat than those who knew it was a LF beat used on another song. No fault f those people, Miller's fans are mostly young high school to college aged kids and didnt grow up listening to LF.

And you're righ about this setting a precedent. From a fans perspective I dont care how they do the music or whose getting paid, I just want the music. But from a moral perspective I feel they should get clearances for their mixtapes as well. Just because you get a clearance for a mixtape doesnt mean the artists has to shell out 1000s of dollars for it, its all in the negotiation.
