What I think dude is mad over is that Macs song is more famous than his ever was and all that happened independently. If I was a legend I would be happy that young dudes loved my shyt and that made young people google my shyt, some of them attend my shows and all that.

Thing is that the joint is well produced, has a video and on. It's not a normal Wayne, Jeezy, Rick Ross freestyle. So even though right now it's fukk Finesse for not just approaching the homie instead, suing the duke for 10 million when he did the exact same shyt with his sample.

This is Tricky I'm on the fence

Mixtapes are basically albums now, if you got a hit single on your mixtape more then likely it will make it to radio and you will perform it at your shows or even put it on your studio album

For a starving artist trying to come up I say let them live accept the homage. If your established or rapping about making money, selling drugs killing people ect ect pay up homie cause according to your rhymes your RICH....

Im the same as you but Im leaning towards the producers at this point. Exactly this is how it should and will be. For those of you worried about this having an effect on up and coming rappers it wont. The reason being is there's no money to be made suing them. If I sample a michael jackson record right now, mike jack's estate isnt going to come after me because Im a nobody with no money who hasnt made shyt and they would be losing faaaar more money tring to sue me. Now if the song blows up and I become popular Ill either holla at the estate and settle something before they become aware and try to sue or Ill just let them sue, they can eat off the money I made from that song but Ill take the fame from that and eat from the rest of my catalogue.

Then instead of chastising us in this thread, how about you enlighten us as to why LF is doing this... Ol "I know something you don't know" faceass

Its actually pretty simple..
If Mac miller did something as simple as....write on his YouTube page "beat produced by Lord finesse" like he promised he would

We probably wouldn't be talking about this

Instead Mac miller played games

By playing the sample? An interpolation? Can you explain a little more because everything you described would need sample clearance. Family Guy can do that because it's satire and protected by law.

let's just say close to an Interpolation.

Like when you hear a song and say...that sounds just like the so and so beat.

The different from the 90s to now is that artists were not touring off of free mixtapes back then. They had songs on different mixtapes and EPs that got buzz, but they were never out being known and doing nationwide tours headlining off of free mixtapes. Now some of these artists are getting major artist show money off of sample based beats. That's crazy.

I don't think Lord Finesse is all in the right here... but he definitely isn't wrong. Young cats should be pushed to be more creative and flip samples/breaks different ways. The older guys did it, these new guys can too. No need to make excuses for them. That way... if these rappers get sued again... it would be by the original holders of the samples, not these older rap artists.

What he's referring to is Mac and his camp basically forced LF's hand and tried to dikk him. Mac is a fukking dikkhead when it comes to giving credit for beats. LF had asked him months ago that all he wanted was his name as the producer for the song in the video, and thats it he didnt ask for a single dollar all he wanted was his name in the title or in the description or on the video saying he produced the song. Mac I think obliged but never did it, fast forward to where we are today which is LF suing him for 10milly and although I know he aint going that amount I hope he sure does cause its not Mac's first time blowing off producers who he's using free beats from and not even given the name recognition, to me thats inexcusable.

And that's my problem with artists like Mac. They're doing hip-hop for the sake of being popular without giving credit to those who inspired them. He's just having fun with it and getting people behind to foot the bill while he does what he wants. But hey, let these folks tell it, LF is sitting at home beyond upset that he doesn't have money anymore... as if they know this man's money situation.

But hey... :yeshrug:

you guys really think that a creative producer won't find a way to either re work a beat by playing the sample...or do an interpretation like Family Guy does with Star Wars references.

Such dummies...

Stop crying Chicken LIttle...the sky and falling. mixtapes will still be there. And it's time for these young cats to find a way to be more ucking creative.

OR...if you gonna take old music. Do it like Elzhi (Elmatic) did or 50 (Sincerely Yours) and just go ape isht with and don't try to be cute!

all this sounds nice in theory but you just cant recreate some samples...some shyts sounds really good slowed, sped-up, pitched-up, etc..you cant recreate that feel

Freddie Gibbs - How We Do ('93 Til Infinity) - YouTube

oh you think? that's exactly what their problem is. if you swapped out Currensy or some rapper these guys worship, their tune would change quick.

if Pete Rock tried to sue Curren$y for 10 million for sampling smooth sailing (which was already a sample itself) would ya'll be in here talkin bout "well he did profit off it"

:mindblown:

No, you wouldn't
