Big knew when to be quiet.......Big knew how to hold mouth closed
when i say he embodied things Pac didnt have it was the mere small complex
that really compelled Pac to being the figure he was.......
Big was a Big black tall scary ugly looking dude.......
Pac was lil light dude who couldnt fight......Big had swag (made up swag)
Big had rent-a-swag, that rags to riches swag......that underdog swag
that black and ugly as ever swag.......u just gotta learn how to work around that
So big had a bunch traits pac would not even want cause he had better shyt? :patrice:

nah. I mean, he wasn't running chit but I cant go that far.

pac was top 5 in popularity coming out of '93, long before he got shot. even before "above the rim".

He would struggle to get in a top 5 popularity on the WEST ALONE without attention whoring gimmicks

snoop, dre, eazy e, cube, cypress hill all bigger in 93 and all without having to resort to making commercial singles ''for the bytches''....:whew: that reminds me i ain't even include too short

Real talk, Tupac shoulda wrote a letter to Henchmen & Haitian Jack for making him a star :lolbron:

I mean they were big, but it was a very competitive environment at that time. I mean Bone Thugs and Crucial conflict were out selling Pac and Big. The Fugees were way bigger in terms of sales.

As far as respect from the streets for their talents, Biggie had a great debut, but not everyone was bowing down to him as the ultimate lyricist. Pac was even clowned by some for what they called a basic rhyme style.

Not everyone had this reverence for these guys that we do now. It was just a very competitive era with so many good MCs. They were top tier rappers but they were not in a class of their own. That's revisionist histroy based on the drama surrounding their deaths.

I remember that nobody outside of Brooklyn was calling BIG the GOAT until Jay-Z said it on "Where I'm From".Back then I mainly listened to Boot camp, mobb deep and wu every day. I listened to pac in spurts.

By the Time Ready To Die blew Biggie use to rap on demos, then he was rapping alongside Michael Jackson on his comeback album. Tupac was shaping up to a big time young Black movie star but his music also took off. They were both as Big as Advertise. "One More Chance" tied the Billboard Record for highest debut single of all time with Michael and Janet Jackson "Scream". For a New York Solo artist, Biggie was the Biggest. Then LL came strong in 95 with "Mr. Smith", Then NaS in 96 with "It Was Written". Jay wasn't in the picture until after Big and Pac's death as far as going Platinum.

Pac become the Biggest Westcoast artist cause at that point Cube was starting to do movies. Snoop and Dre was beefing with Death Row so they weren't releasing as much music as possible. Was Big and Pac elevated in Death? sure but people acting like there was some struggling local artist trying to go Gold artist is crazy. Everyone in Hip Hop knew who Pac and Biggie was. I honestly think "All Eyes on Me" and "Life After Death" would of been even bigger than they were if Biggie/Pac got to live and tour off the album. Pac got to do a little touring but he was dead 6 month's after it's release. It's funny cause now that they've been gone for almost 20 years it really hits me even more how Big they were. Look at how popular they are today. Pac and Big are Hip Hop's true Immortal Legends, their story will be told forever.

Big = Hendrix of Hip Hop (Loved for his amazing superior skills on the mic)
Pac = Marley of Hip Hop (Loved for his emotional and powerful lyrics and message)

Jay didn't call Biggie the GOAT, he just said Him, Big and NaS are debated as the Best. Canibus was the 1st person in Hip Hop History to call Biggie the all out GOAT on wax against LL. The Biggie is the GOAT talk didn't happen until 98, a year after his death and again Canibus got the ball rolling. Puffy and others joined along.

:whoa:

I know the songs and the LL Album breh...

my point is that nobody was calling BIG the Greatest, Best, Illest, Nicest or Whatever of All Time before Jay's line. Nobody even considered him in the discussion before that...Or Jay for that matter. Poor acronym choice on my part. I was using it as a general term for "best ever".

"Greatest/Goat". No. But when you are crowned KING OF the Birthplace of Hip Hop, I think people were calling him the Best after "Ready To Die". The album changed the game. Of course not every rapper out there agreed or even fan but there was talk of Big being the Best rapper in the game while he was alive. "KING OF NEW YORK" was not a title during the Rakim/Kane/KRS/GRap days. Big made that a staple in New York Hip Hop.

I disagree. I don't remember any talk of BIG being the best rapper out there. His own peers (Ghost, Rae, Jeru) and others were openly dissing him and his camp.

I think there was more talk of Nas being the savior of Hip-Hop than there was of Biggie being the best.

King of New York was a movie. That's why BIG referenced himself as Frank White he was a fan of that movie like how a lot of rappers are obsessed with scarface. That had nothing to do with his status as the best rapper.

And as far as other rappers...Wu was much bigger than BIG back then and they dissed him after ready to die dropped.

So him winning 4 Source awards and being called the Best Rapper out in New York after "Ready To Die" didn't happen? Just cause Ghost Rae and Jeru were salty has nothing to do with how the public felt about Big. There was talk of NaS being the savoir after "ILLmatic" and that died when "It Was Written" came out. "Ready To Die" made Biggie the talk of New York which is why he had some emcees hating on him at the time. People love to bring up Ghost, Rae or Jeru but fail to mention the emcees like Meth and others who supported Big. Biggie collaborated with a ton of artist underground and commercial. Ghost, Rae and Jeru didn't speak for the rest of Hip Hop. Big had plenty of Love in New York.

Wu was not bigger than Biggie commercially. Meth was the only Wu member seeing Big on the charts and even then he wasn't bigger. Also I don't need a history lesson on Biggie and the movie "King of NY". It's obvious that was one of Big's alias but it was also saying he was the King of NY and after "Ready To Die" the people crowned him. Which is exactly why the Source put it as the headline on their cover. Was every New York rapper happy about Big's success? No but the people have to crown you and they crowned Big:
