Old Heads, what was it like watching The Matrix for the first time in '99?

the marketing around it was strange. nobody really knew what it was about, and the cast/directors didn't make you want to rush out and see it.

it really blew up when the dvd dropped. dvd was a new format and EVERYONE who had a dvd player had to have the matrix. I think it's the way most people were exposed to it at first
You from Alabama or somethin?

that shyt was huge from day one

I saw this at the movie theater in Nanuet after smoking some hydro with my boys. Didn’t know what the movie was about exactly. Walked out questioning reality for real. Amazing experience I will never forget.

Was young so story went over my head a little but didn't matter as the last 30 or so minutes was straight gas. Honestly you had to be a faq to not walk out the theater like :whoo:

The juxtaposition of walking out of the theater for the first one vs the second one was striking though. Went from no expectations to being blown away, to sky high expectations and it being mid :francis:

I saw it on the Saturday the weekend it dropped. But I had went to the club on Friday so I took a nap. I woke up towards the end. I didn't enjoy the movie until I could rent it.

I was young so my parents took me to the theatre to watch it after it came out. Unfortunately when we got there, there was a note saying the theatre owners pulled the movie because of Columbine. I didn't get a chance to see it until my friend rented it from the video store:francis:

Movie still blew my mind and I was :damn: the whole time.

Felt like a live action Ghost In The Shell

I had seen Dark City and Blade the year before and you can clearly tell they influenced it

It was surreal. Watched it in the hood an everyone was quiet and the theater was packed. Never happens. No babies crying, no arguing nothing. When Trinity 1st did that float kick...broooo Some dude screamed REWIND THAT!! Whole theater laughed. what a time

I can’t remember what my exact reaction was but I remember I was chilling with my brother and we was talking about how piff Blade was. So then I say something like after Blade we got the Matrix and it was crazy. He was :dwillhuh: What is The Matrix

I legit was :gucci: nikka. Put that shyt on and watched HIS reaction. He was :gladbron:the whole time
Funny cause that's how I got put on. My boy in college had Blade on DVD so we watched it in his room. I was talking about how crazy it looked on DVD so then he asked if I had seen the Matrix. I told him I hadn't even heard of it. His eyes bugged out like nah we watching that shyt right now.

It's like Raiders fans going into an NFL season vs Raiders fans once the season is over. I feel you.
