I was actually with Dre when I 1st heard it at a King Tee video shoot. He asked nikkas to come to his Benz so he could play something. nikkas was like :ohhh: when listening to it. The flow and delivery was something we never heard. Then he said it was a whiteboy and nikkas was litterally like :childplease: :wtf: :mindblown: :whoo: :obama: :whew: :salute:. I knew after that Dre was about to seriously :eat:

Thought it was a joke until 2001 dropped then I began paying attention.
That's how I remember it. I was in middle school, & when My Name Is dropped, it was so different, no one really though he could spit until 01. between that track & Guilty Conscience, I thought he was a gimmick.

I first saw the vid for "My Name Is" like "what in the chit is this..."

then Dr. Dre appears in the video out of nowhere, and i'm like "Oh hell - this nicca finally lost it..."

I had so many questions, breaux:

- What the hell did I just watch?
- Did Dre do this wack-ass beat??
- Who in the hell is Dave?

...but Marshall was aight. Then "Role Model" dropped, and I got it.

1st time I heard Em was Scary Movies with Royce. Then "Nothin to Do" (thought he was black too). Saw the My Name is Video and couldn't believe it was the same guy...then I thought the song was kinda wack and I was just all confused. Didn't think much about Dre signing him. As much as Dre did for Em, Em did a lot for Dre's career. that Aftermath compilation album he put out FLOPPED. Him and Snoop weren't fukking with each other. Then he started working with East Coast rappers like Nas. The Firm was his next big project...that sh*t FLOPPED and Dre was just kinda cold. Without Em, the last 15 years of Dre's legacy couldn't went either way.

When I first heard My Name Is it was on TRL... I didnt think anything of it or wasn't phased that Dre was in it for his his few lines... Follow up songs came out was decent. But when he dropped the Marshal Mathers LP (before tracks were cut if you were to get it now) I was like
BradshawOMG.gif

Did he just say what he said about his momma & did I just listen to a song about him k1lling his wife??!? I did not expect his career to pan out this far.

I was in 6th grade when My Name Is came out...

I remember the majority of kids instantly becoming Feminem Stans. I couldnt believe all these kids were c/s some faq with bleached hair. Even the girls liked him.

Its amazing how many kids in my middle school never f*cked with rap until Feminem came round. Thats why i cant really respect the opinions of most rap fans that came post-Slim Shady LP

Remember the first time I heard My Name Is in. Middle School and everybody was losing their shyt over a Cac who could ACTUALLY rap...

I treated that shyt like I treated the Pokemon phase everybody was going through, with indifference :yeshrug:

Everyone was already aware of Eminem from his battles and underground work. We knew Em was nice already. I also knew Dre had a huge draw on his hands.

Yup. This is what I came in here to say.

Yup, I came in here to say just this. nikka I use to hang with gave me and my cousin a mixtape that had like a shyt load of his freestyles on it. Then I knew once Dre had signed him Dre had just what he needed to win again.
