That or extend him at his current rate 21 per year for another 4 years when the trade is completed. I would take the chance of him recovering from his injury and outperforming his contract.
Perry drafted him in Orlando, so it’s credible he would want another shot at him.
We’ve seen nothing that indicates how much say Perry actually has in the front office as of now. It’s way more likely that Perry is there to help make a seamless transition between front offices than he’s making important decisions like who to trade for.

So...
- The trade the Thunder are rumored to like in this isn't bad...a first round pick, Julius Randle and Kevin Knox for CP3.
- A hold up is the Knicks prefer to offload Frank or DSJ in this kinda deal which makes sense imo given their getting back a PG.
- An interesting note is that they want to keep Knox partially because of Kenny Payne's presence.
- On the fun side of things, this article also adds that Melo would come to play with CP3 in NY if that were an option; so we can sorta game out a rough sketch of the Knicks if this rumor were to go down:
CP3, a wing they draft, Barrett opposite wing, Melo, Mitch...so something like CP3/Vassell/RJ/Melo/Mitch would make sense in this rumored scenario.
- There's also a reference to a potential Oladipo trade and his Perry connection; though it's a lot more cautious in manner...mentions his injury, has Bobby Marks edging CP3 as a trade target even with his contract and also mentions that Oladipo called BS on the rumors.
My thoughts on this scenario...not my favorite of the bunch but a rumor that I can live with. It'd be more of my personal biases toward Melo and CP3 as players than belief that this is a best path forward. Pick, Randle, Knox is basically the trade I was hoping for if the Paul rumors are true too.

I’d try and do Randle, DSJ and a pick for CP3, maybe add a second round pick to sweeten it
