We had the worst record that year and drafted the best player that is on the team because of it. It was tanking willingly or not.

:dahell:

Why is this so hard for ya’ll to admit that tanking made the team better?
The NBA new odd system means we'll be getting screwed like before :yeshrug:

But we wanted Zion though... :unimpressed:

And where did I say it didn't make us better? :jbhmm:

We never got who we wanted. And I was one of us in here saying we shouldn't be winning meaningless games after we miss the playoffs but if the youngins pull it off whatever. And with the way the odds are now I rather us try to develop who we get REGARDLESS of where we draft cause at the end off the day Free Agents are just gonna burn us the way KD and Drew did if all we're doing is winning 23 games a year. :unimpressed:

We didn’t tank purposely we just were bad . :gucci: We have young pieces who we think can be something so need to build around them . Not do crazy moves but smart moves that Make us improved , we can’t bank everything on the draft with the new rules breh

Next year draft deep as fukk....... let’s play the kids heavy minutes, and draft one of the superstar forwards.

We going to play the Celtics, nets, raptor and 76er probably 6-8 times each possibly more to avoid massive spreading. We are going to have a shytty record regardless.

lol Frank has improved. He’s gotten more aggressive, actually shoots now and was driving more and has been the best perimeter defender on the team since he was drafted. Yes, he’s not a star... i don’t think he was ever drafted to be one. Why is that not ok? What’s the point of throwing the baby out with the bath water? Point guards notoriously take longer to develop. Why is it crazy to say that i would love to see what he (and the rest of our YOUNG guys) would look like under competent coaching and development for once? Does Frank have a shorter leash then the rest of the guys? NATURALLY. But is he a finish product to written off at 22 years old? Absolutely not. The kid is 4 months younger than Obi Toppin.
Dog the improvement has been marginal at best.

He increased his three point volume but overall shot the ball at a career low rate and had the highest foul rate of his career in year 3. His handles and jumper (from the corners and midrange, trash above the break) are a bit better and he’s a lil more muscular.

He’s looking like a Garrett Temple type player. Dante Exum without the injuries. His improvement is not worth the return on investment.

He may command $8-10M on the open market if he has a somewhat decent or improved year. We already paid him $17M on his rookie deal to be one of the worst players in the league.

I’m not trying to waste $50M and up to 7 years to develop Frank fukking Ntilikina into some lil mid 3&D combo guard. What is wrong with y’all? It’s bad enough we wasted an 8th pick and passed on players like Mitchell and Adebayo.

Tanking didn’t work we got fukked and ended up with a player a tier or two below the big dogs (Zion, Morant). We were worse than the teams that got them.

Them lotto balls gonna do what they do. We should be terrible again next year regardless but the goal should be to establish a play style/system and win at least 30 games and make sure our young guys are in good positions to contribute with compatible pieces next to them.

Why tank if they already have Dallas picks for 2021 and tanking doesn't guarantee at top spot any longer. Plus the goal is to make the team look competitive to attract stars.

I think this is a good question. The main answer would be that the scout types are all saying that anywhere between 6-10 players in next years draft would have a case for the top pick this year. Even the new draft odds can’t keep you from getting a very nice prospect next year because it’s just that deep.

I do think the knicks will try to compete right away though. They want to be able to convince FAs to come and that’ll require some wins. My guess though is that they won’t overpay or force a move since the worst case scenario is that we play a bunch of young guys for a year and then line up another very gifted prospect with them next.

I honestly don’t mind moving in either direction. My only mindset for this offseason is that we don’t rush or overpay anybody. There no one turning this team around on their own unless we draft an instant star and I don’t see that in this draft.

Normally you’re right. But there’s a strong case for this draft. Even if we had the worst record and got the guaranteed fifth pick in the draft, we’d be able to draft a REALLY good player. For all you guys who badly want Lamelo, it’s not a stretch to say that he’d be the 8th? best prospect in next years class.

That’s a different argument breh. I don’t necessarily disagree about what it would cost to keep him. My argument has strictly been, that right now we don’t know what he would look like in a competent situation.

For all the “oh no CAA” heads, THIS would give me cause for concern. But i feel like this is another in the long line of writers just throwing CAA rumors out there because they can’t actually get shyt out of the front office.

If the Knicks let Harkless go just to sign a worse player in the same mold then I don't know how you can take it other than it being CAA based nepotism, but for me this is one of those "I'll believe it when I see it" type rumors.
