How so?

He had a decent rookie season. Won rookie of the month in December.

last month of the season his played picked up, and he ended the season strong.

Dude literally just Turned 20 in August. He’s already showed he can score on the NBA level.
He started the season scoring well off the bench, it’s not too many 20 yr old coming into the league playing good defense. Yeah he struggles, but I see him giving effort..the I.Q. Will come with experience.
What are you using to quantify his rookie season being "decent"

Because the amount of production he provided in the amount of usage he had last season...yeah, it wasn't good

The other two issues are also potentially on the personnel. Free throw shooting and losing big leads have become staple issues for the team. There's a lack of attention to detail getting in the way of what appears to be solid effort on most nights. It's chicken or the egg with the roster or the coach though. A lot of players have regressed but most of the roster never looked like it would mesh to begin with. Fiz has cover from harsher critique because of this, but he's certainly not helping the situation and at minimum...this team has played a weak schedule and should absolutely have a better record than they had last season. Too much regression can and should lead to more speculation about how long Fiz sticks around.

All that said, Randle and Morris have actually shown a shift in mindset. Frank and RJ are getting big minutes and big roles. There are pathways for a lot of these youngsters to break through. It's just tough to know how long Fizdale has before something's got to give. He'll likely be the first casualty whether this season's burden deserves to rest on his shoulders or not.

He needs to be playing Randles minutes. I feel disappointed in how they're treating him in same way Frank was treated last season. The difference is, Frank hired Batums boy and practiced in France. Knox is not gonna learn being a bench warmer.

And then have the nerve to point out Toronto as a team that develops players... ignoring that all those guys are 25+.
You have a valid point. In that case, firing Fizdale would be dumb when you can ride out the remainder of his contract to develop the youth and give them a few more years to develop.

Kevin Knox is only 20, I'm gonna give him another 3 years.

RJ is only 19, 4 years.

Mitch, I'll give 3 years.

Frank is getting there but he's 22, I'll give him another year.

I'm gonna look at other teams until this team develops in 3 years.

I hope Knox gets traded and pulls a Melo in Portland or Burke in Philly.

Calling young players bust at such an early age is so lazy. Dudes focus on rookies who came out strong out the gate not acknowledging they represent outliers.

This is why people shytting on the young guys or putting a cap on them this early in their development is stupid

To me

RJ has the potential to be a superstar and if not a superstar then all star
Knox has potential but idk if he will be able to reach it on this team (he would be a 3rd option at best or 4th behind Mitch)
Given the Knicks luck he will be traded and somehow average 30 ppg on another team seemingly out of nowhere :mjlol:
Frank has the potential to be a super Marcus Smart
Mitch has a chance to be a super Gobert
Trier has a chance to be a great 6th man but I think he's gone unless Fiz gets fired and the new coach develops him properly

I see the potential in these players
When the 4th or 5th year comes and they are not there, then you have a good idea of what they are as players and then they become trade assets

All these guys need is another scorer to pair w/ RJ and Knox like Edwards who looks like a SG Durant

Frank/Edwards/RJ/Knox/Mitch w/ Trier off the bench :banderas:

He played well enough to earn Rookie of the month...that alone I would quantify as having a “decent” season.

his shortcomings are what you would’ve expected from a 19 yr old surrounded around with a roster full of players still trying to find their own grounding
