I want Marcus here as much as the next guy...but at what price point does he ask to return? And even if we offer it to him...he's reneged twice already. There's no guarantee he'll honor his word.
I’m less concerned about that. Spurs offered him a bench role. We offered him a starting one last minute. I doubt he’d do that again.

Actually, i guess your point is, he says he wants to be here now but come summer time if a contender offers him the same money and playing time we do, he could easily jump ship.

Whether he wants to be here or not, I’m still trading him because we need assets and playing time/touches for our younger guys. (Julius included).

I'm completely on the fence with Morris. He's been absolutely great and my only concern is that his efficiency feels unsustainable with how challenging the shots he makes are...but he just keeps knocking down everything. Trading him for a late 1st would be a bit disappointing, but losing him for nothing to an overpay would be equally rough. I wish I trusted our front office more because then I'd just count on them to recognize if he'll really come back for a fair price or if a big contract offer from someone else is in the cards. He's playing worth more than we're paying right now imo.

The other thing is that the return on him kinda just becomes another set of fluid trade pieces. A late pick and a second or struggling young guy might give us more pieces for a package, but it feels like those packages aren't as valued anymore. You've gotta give a TON of assets to bring in a known commodity, so you're hoping to hit big on a pick with a low hit-rate to begin with while giving up a veteran in the locker room and someone who has really proven a leader. Yesterday's game, he calmed Randle down after the T and both times we went into scoring droughts, he was the one that came in and made the necessary shots to bring back composure.

Either direction though, I say we ride this to the deadline. More interest will rise, other quality Forwards might come off of the market and he's only been boosting his value every night out. I could see more than one playoff team looking his way as the best chance to make a deep run. The potential for a bidding war is a beautiful thing to hold out for when I might want to just keep him anyway.

Actually, this is the type of draft where you’ll find talent late. The prospects are so close in talent this year that nobody really knows who’s really top 10. Alot of teams will probably just draft for need. A good player will be had in the 20s. You have to trade Morris. Keeping him to miss the playoffs makes no sense and would be Malpractice. Especially when you can just sign him again this off season if he really wants to be in ny
I don’t think you can sign him again because of something in the CBA but I could be mistaken.

This draft sucks. I have zero doubt we will find a player and develop him enough to be a valuable contributor past his first NBA contract. Whoever we draft and develop will likely be a guy you can easily find in free agency. :russell:

morris should stay
yall so quick to chase away players that we didnt draft.
the man has exceeded expectations, and he could easily request a trade and compete for a ring this year on several different teams.

instead he wants to stay with us, must be the melo in him. that needs to be embraced. its horrible look if we trade him away. and if he bashes us on da way out, i wouldnt hold it against him

If I'm not mistaken we can't re-sign him if he's waived but will be allowed to in the offseason.

You have a problem with insinuating things no one is saying. No one wants Morris to leave but it's a combination of him outplaying his contract and his history of making decisions for himself that benefit him. Morris wasn't offered a chance to play for a title contender before he came to us. His backing out on the Spurs could very well have the same damaging effects on us if a title contender is able to offer him more money. These are things that very much have to be in your mind when deciding whether to move him before the trade deadline. I hope you're not suggesting Marcus is untradeable

this is simply false
its well know he had a clippers offer on da table
as well as da spurs
morris is da type of player who can pretty much play for any team.
he said he wants to stay here for da long term several times and pubicly turned down opportunies to play with better teams, yet you are still valueing your opinion over his:mindblown:

Still would trade him for Thybulle and picks or Shamet and a 1st round pick

The Knicks will have all the leverage as these contenders are desperate, especially the Sixers

What the Knicks should do instead is get rid of Randle and run w/ a LotteryPG/RJ/Knox/Morris/Mitch lineup next year

I'd take Thybulle for sure, but I don't think the Sixers are letting him go. You know I stan defense so that's my guy. Shamet, I'm definitely expecting a pick or picks with but if I'm not mistaken the Clippers can't deal any picks for a while because they gave up a bunch already. I'd also be aiming for a 2021 pick rather than a 2020 one. I like some of the mid-round guys but not much late. Just get me someone like Haliburton and let's look to the next draft class.
