Sports fandom is something I don't take lightly in sports debates. It's legitimate.

That being said, Julius Randle isn't a rental; he has a 3 year commitment. He has certain established skills, is young and exhibits that "if the coaching clicks with him, he'll shine" kind of vibe.

He's a Knick.

He wanted to come here.

He has issues, there are many annoying elements to his game that agitate the shyt out of us; no argument here.

But he's a Knicks, brehs. Barring any trades; he's a 3 year Knick(team option).

I don't think it's fair to condemn the Knicks fans who genuinely don't like his game or effect on the X's and O's...

But at the same time, I don't understand how when certain things happen showing a potential positive change to his game - people just seem to WANT to dismiss it.

It's like with Frank or with Knox or with DSJ or with Vonleh or Burke - if they are going through a good stretch, it takes a lot less energy to be happy for the kid and for having positive impact on the game than to hunker down on a "you dumb fans, just wait until he regresses again!"

If he regresses more than he progresses, it doesn't make you look bad to have been positive up until that point.

And no, I'm not arguing that we should be delusional like when he has a bad game and we go, "great game!"

No. I mean, we should all just put the pitchforks away just for a little while.

fukk...Randle is becoming my new Timmy Hardaway:martin::mjpls:@Miles Davis

Imagine a guy getting paid 20 million dollars a year and it takes him damn near half a season to consistently play well :mjlol:
And these are the guys you want to pat on the back
I want the Knicks to trade Randle as soon as this season
However, if he

1) continues to play well
2) starts looking for RJ more (he, along with a couple of others, constantly freeze out RJ)
3) continues to shoot 37+% from 3 (he made 3 last night)
4) doesn't revert to Randle Handle and passes the ball more

then him not being traded won't be that bad

Then the Knicks would be looking at a lineup of

Ball/Barrett/Knox/Randle/Mitch next year w/ Frank as super backup PG, Wooton as PF, etc.

Even if it's not Ball, it could be any of Edwards, Nico, Haliburton. RJ, Maxxey, Killian, etc.

With the emergence of Mitch (if he keeps this up), the Knicks won't need Wiseman as much even though he is an elite prospect

I expect a big jump in year 3 for Mitch

After that all the Knicks would need is Knox and Barrett making a jump too

Increase trade value and keep Morris who is just as effective as him with better defense.
I think Morris is a selfish player but he will at least help shield the young players from the NY media especially when RJ struggles if Randle gets traded

If both Morris and Randle get traded there will be a lot more pressure on RJ to perform as the main guy unless they finally unleash Trier

I can see Trier taking over the scoring load left over by Morris and Randle combined with efforts from other guys like Mitch for example

I'm confident that's the case as I would trade both Randle and Morris for picks in a heart beat

Either way I think the Knicks may be in an upward trajectory under Miller (and whoever else after him) in the 2020s (or not since it's the Knicks)

Trier needs to be traded. We have too many better guards in his position with Bullock and Dotson. I would also scoop Iggy out of the D leagues as a backup SF and use Morris as a PF if we traded Randle.

I feel like Trier is the forgotten prospect

It's easy to be low on him now and say trade him away

Of course with the Knicks luck he will explode statistically on another team and there will be a bunch of fans and people in the media whining about how the Knicks had this guy rotting on the bench

Trier needs to be given a chance

If Portis and Ellington and these other bums can be given a chance who don't play any defense but are not as gifted offensively as Trier, then Trier should definitely be given a chance

It's politics and everyone is buying into it

If Trier was actually given playing time and contributed offensively to winning, the narrative would be very different

A 6th man potential player like Trier is a great luxury to have

Him and Dotson at guard don't become a problem if this is the lineup next year for example

Ball/Dotson/Barrett/Knox/Mitch w/ Trier, Bullock, Iggy, Frank, Wooton, etc. off the bench

He can still be traded for the right price though

Last 4 games:

35/5
33/8
30/7
22/13

if anyone that doesn't have the name Julius Randle was doing this, you guys would be saying he's a bonafide star

@Gil Scott-Heroin lost

@JMurder lost

@ikbm lost

How so? :dwillhuh:

Me and you already discussed why I think he played so terrible to start the year. I don't like the WAY he plays. But with good coaching he's displaying the best of his game and showing all of the things you rave about. But he doesn't/can't do it on his own. His ability to play the right way is predicated on pieces that are beyond his control. And on a team full of young pieces who require attention and development I don't think it's best to have that type of player demanding a ton of minutes and attention. His entire mentality to the game would have to change in 2 years and then we would have to offer him max dollars for his time here to be worth anything meaningful to the franchise. Essentially, we're developing Julius to make money somewhere else at the expense of our younger players. I don't support that.

people in this thread have an agenda against him and arent backing down regardless of how well he plays lol
wanted him benched and traded after 10 games but preach long term development for other players at the same time :russ:
im not his biggest fan, but hes been playin well lately. good for him
What sense does it make to develop and play Julius Randle at 19 mil a year if he's not going to be a part of a championship contender unless you think the Knicks will be locks for the playoffs over the next 3 years
New team, new teammates, new coach(es). You swear the NBA is 2k my player u dweeb. Stop living in fantasy world. Look at Mike Conley. Look at Al Horford, etc.
Star players don't look THAT bad playing next to new players/teams/coaches. That's the point.

against NBA teams

Y’all hate this man so much that his success bothers y’all. Imagine rooting against a player on your own team. And he’s doing this while leading y’all to wins. :russ:
According to your favorite stat, Frank actually led us to a win last night :troll:
To be fair, if we would have drafted him, it would be a different story. It’s not all on Randle either, it’s more about our impatience with the Front Office. DSJ is only 21 and 80% of this thread is ready to ship him off over Frank because he’s not ours. I hope Randle keeps it up. I felt like the plan was always to show a guy like Kat what he can look like on NY if this is what JULIUS RANDLE can do. Same shyt Brooklyn did with Russell and Kyrie.

Furthermore, i hope we make a push for the playoffs. I think that’s way more valuable to the future of this team than a higher chance at a draft pick. Hopefully the basketball gods bless us in return with a top 4 pick from 11 or 12 than having a top 3 worst record again.
Don't do this. Julius Randle has played several years for several different teams. He's 25 entering the prime of his career. He's not the first Knick signing to be maligned for playing like an idiot and he won't be the last. He's playing really good right now and that's great. He deserves all the props in the world right now. But let's not make this a "he wasn't drafted here" thing. This is "he's a clear detriment to the forward progress of this team" thing. I've explained why above

lol a good amount of ppl in here dont care about the team as much as they care about being right about an personal like or dislike that they have for a particular player or a coach.
I don't see why you're dissing yourself like this. Don't think I didn't notice you weren't in here last night after saying "FINALLY A REASON TO WATCH THIS TRASH AS TEAM" cause Melo was in the Garden. Cause you obviously care about the team. Cause you don't have agendas for certain players (Frank) or coaches (Fiz). Yeah ok
this is why you judge a player/team after a full season. not after 10 or 20 games. randle is still a kid, and players develop differently and at different times. its a marathon

this team is trash.
not an insult, just to truth.
i have no personal issue with frank no matter how much u try and create one in your head.
if he plays like a bytch, i call him out. its really as simple as that.
he played well last night, im proud of him. but once every 3 weeks ain't doing it for me:yeshrug:

you treat him like hes your first born child or something:mjlol:

if you sign an 24 year old player entertaining his prime to a 3 year contract, its your job to try and develop him into a better player. you have invested in him. this is common sense.

championship contender:russ:, there's a chance that no one on this team will help help lead us to a ring. but you still have to develop them.

i haven't said one bad word about miller since he has been hired, so this fiz thing you are trying to push is also nonsense:mjlol:

and right about on time...kp is out right around new years for god knows how long :francis:

Damn, it's starting to look like the Knicks curse is spreading. Used to be that we had to get you in a Knicks uniform to start injury woes...Houston and Stat come to mind. KD, KP, Zion...all hurt without a Knicks contract. Giannis needs to make sure we don't get too committed to signing him and KAT better tell the Knicks to monitor someone else.

Serious note, this is never how I want to see talented guys go out. KP is a unique player and I'd like to see how he builds on the promising potential he showed us here. I want the Knicks to come out winning the trade because they get real value out of the picks, cap space and DSJ. Not because KP winds up injury prone.
