I’m perfectly fine with that.
the case for Obi is that he’s one of like 3 players projected in the lottery that had a great season last year. He was the best player in college ball hands down and had his team #1 in the nation. The defense is bad but so are we so we can afford to not worry about teams singling him out in the playoffs for a few years at least while we pray that Thibs can get him to just be an average defender. Cause then, Toppin has all star potential.
I’m way less concerned about Obi’s defense than whether or not he can really stretch the floor with an nba line. We’re pairing him with Mitch, so I can give a little on defense for the offensive ability. He shot a good percentage from three but he took those shots mostly in crazy space, otherwise he attacked inside.
That said, I’ve got no problem getting Obi. He’s a home run swing to me and doesn’t get enough credit (older picks this year in particular are being slept on and he’s the headliner of it)...but I don’t want to leave this draft with just one player. I love Obi at 8 and wouldn’t mind him at 5 or 6 if we bought another pick and could add a pg or wing prospect into the mix.
Obi and Flynn would be an older player draft but I’d love that.
