Iowa State is the most dangerous #2 seed in the tournament, imo. They're a hit a bunch of 3s type of team with an elite coach. Otherwise, I like Michigan's bracket.

Also there's potential a match up with Nate Oats, who would have been Michigan's coach had Beilein left earlier, or Christian Anderson Jr., who Dusty should have fought to keep committed to Michigan...

Haven’t watched any Iowa State ball but every time they are on the ticker looks like they getting blowed the fukk out.

They are 23rd in offense according to Torvik, which for reference Purdue is #1 and Wisconsin is #8. Their defense is their best at #6 nationally. They’ve been pretty mid numbers wise the last month or so.

I think people are over reacting to our defense which it’s our offense that’s been struggling

Michigan vs. Holy Cross, Friday at 5:30 PM on ESPN2

I would have preferred they have been a #3 playing in the same region as #1 UConn and #2 Vandy. #1 Texas in Fort Worth is a home game (I forgot FW was a region), their size and athleticism were already going to be a problem. The fundamentals don't really change, Michigan gets two home games before facing a Louisville team that matches up well with them. Michigan has better talent but Louisville has better coaching.

The Sweet Sixteen remains the floor and Elite Eight ceiling... but that's a hard ceiling.

That's kind of a key part of any assessment. Getting rolled in 2/34 games, which were road games, is hardly an indicator of quality. They beat KU about as badly as they lost to them. The B12 championship game vs Arizona is a perfect example of their shot making vs a credible defense.

Let's look at Minnesota's (O: 72; D: 57) and Iowa's (O: 30; D: 35) Torvik rankings. Those games were only close because they hit threes and played defense (crowded the paint tbh). If Cade Tyson and Bennett Stirtz can get theirs vs Michigan, then so can Milan Momcilovic.

All it takes is one hot shooting night, something they're more than capable of manufacturing, for the metrics to be irrelevant. That's the danger. It doesn't mean Michigan will lose, but all that Final Four or bust talk should be on the shelf with LJ.

Let me preface this by saying the Big Ten had the worse officiating in the NCAA and you can pretty much throw out a lot of numbers come tourney time as to why Big Ten season numbers are great but in the tournament it’s up and down. For instance in the tourney the refs are calling a 5th on Cluff and Wisconsin entire team fouls out by the second half. All reason to believe Michigans offensive numbers will get better once we get in the tournament and proper basketball can be played without nut kicking and guys being tackled.

If Iowa State can replicate the Arizona game the entire tournament they are in the final. I doubt that though because their offensive numbers over the month of February were mid to outright putrid. Including scoring 55 points against TCU

These are Purdues numbers down the same stretch

And Illinois

I much more worried about their defense and our tendency to go cold over long stretches particularly to start second halves.

With their up and down offense and the fact they’ll see potentially Kentucky and Virginia before us they might not even be there.

The Queens of Crisler by TKO.

It was lit in here, noticeably better crowd than the last time they hosted.

Michigan scored 64 points in the second half to win the game. It was clear early on that Olivia's foul trouble was the reason the offense was limited (scored 0 in the first half, finished with 27), although Syla played well (scored 26, reached 1,000 career points) . Syla's finishing has been a lot better in the last two games and that's something to look for. Her shooting is whatever but she's been very bad around the rim this season, hopefully this is her finding her touch.
