aint shyt classic to me unless im playing it atleast 5 years later, i never got how people could call something a classic after only a short period of time

im pretty sure everyone here at some point in time went back and listened to an album that was a "classic" and you realized that it wasn't as dope as you remember (dated beats, overhyped bars, etc.) so nikkas should know better than to deem something a classic after one damn year

And I agree, you won't be seeing me call it a classic. It's one hell of a debut album, to not acknowledge he passion and effort in this album baffles me. It's not a simple studio album of pro tool sessions.

And when people say "general consensus", a lot of the times they're just talking about white music critics who aren't hip hop lets keep it real. These are the same people who said that Kanye album was hot

Ok but when I look at the Kendrick threads in this forum only a handful think his music is trash. Look at the poll in GKMC vs NWTS, murdered him in the polls. And this is from The Coli, so I guess everyone is a CAC.


And the same people who use that word overrated apply it to legends like Tupac, Biggie, Nas, Jay Z, even 3K. Sorry but this tired act of cynicism can't be ignored for so long.

Kendrick has a long way to go, his debut album was a success commercially and critically, bottom line fact. So I leave that classic talk behind and just enjoy the music

concept that has been talked about throughout hip hop history but rarely is it executed as well as kendrick did.

to make a commercially successful album with that concept in this day and age of superfriend songs with a DJ for the club and albums made up of singles, is amazing

some people will hate on his voice or just him in general but youre bias is showing if you cant admit this is a great album at minimum. it will be considered a classic of this era of rap.

edit: personally the last two albums that get classic consideration from me are food and liquor and GKMC. and GKMC will probably be looked at in higher regard because of its commercial success even though F&L is still better to me. those are the last two albums released i feel are worthy of classic status

Some of these hip hop fans are so bitter that they feel that an album like GKMC, a quality album with its success, is too good to be true. Like, they been shytted on for so long, that they feel that they don't deserve to live to see its success.
