The Racial Gap in Educational Attainment in the United States

If we break the data down by gender, we find that 24.9 percent of African American men and 30.8 percent of African American women over the age of 25 had obtained at least a bachelor’s degree.

Some 1,591,000 Black women had earned a master’s degree but no higher degree. In 2021 there were 841,000 Black men who had earned a master’s degree but no higher degree.

Black women now hold a lead over Black men in professional fields such as law, medicine, dentistry, etc. In 2021, there were 125,000 Black men who had earned a professional degree compared to 139,000 Black women.

That is an abysmal stat :francis:

We need to really emphasize education in our community more and petition for laws that will make college education more obtainable for Black people especially Black men.
so you think black mean who choose not to be in debt 40-60k are somehow the problem, maybe we need to ask why going to school for a communications and liberal arts degree and never paying off the loan while you work at Starbucks is an accepted reality...

". Single Black men's median wealth was $10,100, compared to Single Black women's median wealth of $1,700."
i bet you wont mention that... the wealth of black women

Its going to get worse until parents and school districts prioritize Reading and Math. The money is not in these Non-STEM majors.

High School Juniors taking Algebra 1 and Geometry nowhere near ready for tougher math classes, but the public school districts still trying to graduate them a year early to get them off the budget and pad graduation rates. Then if they can finally make it into College Calculus/Chemistry/Physics (after a year of remedial math) they're greeted by elitist gatekeeping whites and asians.

"We will suppose a case for argument: In this city reside, two colored families, of three sons and three daughters each. At the head of each family, there is an old father and mother. The opportunities of these families, may or may not be the same for educational advantages—be that as it may, the children of the one go to school, and become qualified for the duties of life. One daughter becomes school-teacher, another a mantua-maker, and a third a fancy shop-keeper; while one son becomes a farmer, another a merchant, and a third a mechanic. All enter into business with fine prospects, marry respectably, and settle down in domestic comfort—while the six sons and daughters of the other family, grow up without educational and business qualifications, and the highest aim they have, is to apply to the sons and daughters of the first named family, to hire for domestics! Would there be an equality here between the children of these two families? Certainly not. This, then, is precisely the position of the colored people generally in the United States, compared with the whites. What is necessary to be done, in order to attain an equality, is to change the condition, and the person is at once changed. If, as before stated, a knowledge of all the various business enterprises, trades, professions, and sciences, is necessary for the elevation of the white, a knowledge of them also is necessary for the elevation of the colored man; and he cannot be elevated without them."

Martin Delaney—1852.
Yeah...I agree if I understood what this was...not everybody can get a degree and trade. This is correct. But you still should get educated atleast. So many community colleges out here giving away free education in 2023 and brehs and brehettes do not take advantage.

My professor Briscoe got his 2 yr degree at PGCC and then came to Morgan State for his BFA and then went to Howard for his MFA. It can be done but like I stated if no one exposes you to an education...do you really know it exist and the possibilities it can bring?

No we dont, we need more stem and trades, because that is what makes the world go round
we dont need any more of my tax money wasted so shay shay can work in hr and be a boss bytch, fukk outta here
No we don't. Not everyone can do STEM it's already an over saturated field and with AI taking over those STEM jobs will all be AI which isn't even a huge industry to get into just yet.

We need more black doctors, lawyers, school teachers and judges and black sheriff's. Cause the police ain't never geauxing away and we need a breh to keep the pigs at bay.

It's alla crapshoot as the whites will never let us have a foothold on any career field except sports and entertainment..they don't even want us in the fine art world.

The good life 😎
It's known that black boys are unfairly targeted for punishment even when doing nothing wrong, starting from pre-school, even when the teacher is black. If anything, I'm surprised the number is 25% because given how much shyt black boys go through and how ignored their issues are, it should be 10% or less. This is why the emphasis we put on black women's education should also be put on black men's education.

Today I will remind them:

And when they are in the same fields too. That's another reason for the fmgender wars. Black women rightfully so feel entitled to equal pay or better due to their education. All by design. You lock up Black women as much as you do Black men and watch the degrees discrepancy dwindle.

That's why we need more black men school teachers...hence education degrees. We do not need brehs doing STEM jobs.

Baltimore, DC, Houston, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, NYC and other rmajor blue cities with a high black populace test scores on reading and math are not on par with their white counterparts. To alleviate that we need more black male presence to even the odds out in our favor. So I'm against the gold rush if STEM jobs cause the younger black generations are getting dumber and dumber.

the average black person if not going to school for 8 years and spending over 100k to be a lawyer nor a jugdge so lets cut that out right now.
AI suffers from breakdown entropy like all things in the universe and needs to be maintained 24/7 like any software, this idea that everything will be run by AI is DECADES away from being truly suffienct, and even then you think millions of people will let themslees get laid off and not revolt? Have you heard of the French revolution . Chatgpt is already having these break down problems, Chatgbt get dumber
Stem is a MASSIVE field, and is not oversaturated, however, code monkey and programmers are...
stem cover energy food, crops, medicine etc, hence the term SIENCE TECHNOLGY ENGINEERING AND MATH!

If they were taught that field is important and explained why...it would change.

Nothing is an absolute and you are speaking in absolutes. We need a more black even spectrum. You want all these STEM jobs to be black and not focus on having black teachers...or lawyers to protect us from an unjust judicial system....that doesn't sit well with me. Plus studies have shown student sunder a black male lead i.e Principal and Teacher..the student do well in life and are more driven to geaux to college.
