There has been a lot of discussion of Trumps actual leanings and labels. This is an objective analysis, easy to read and you can put your own stances in and get currently candidate matches historical president stances etc. Its cool. Anyway: Donald Trump on the Issues The link shows his stances throughout the years and and another link within objectively scores them (hyperlink provided). The years and dates of the statements are provided on the site as well.

s030_080.gif

Donald Trump is a Libertarian-Leaning Conservative.

The candidate scored the following on the VoteMatch questions:

Social Score 28%
Economic Score 75%

Social Score

This measures how much the candidate believes government should intervene in people's personal lives or on social issues. These issues include health, morality, love, recreation, prayer and other activities that are not measured in dollars.

  • A high score (above 60%) means the candidate believes in tolerance for different people and lifestyles.
  • A low score (below 40%) means the candidate believes that standards of morality & safety should be enforced by government.
Economic Score

This measures how much the candidate believes government should intervene in people's economic lives. Economic issues include retirement funding, budget allocations, and taxes.

  • A high score (above 60%) means the candidate believes in personal responsibility for financial matters, and that free-market competition is better for people than central planning by the government.
  • A low score (below 40%) means the candidate believes that a good society is best achieved by the government redistributing wealth. The candidate believes that government's purpose is to decide which programs are good for society, and how much should be spent on each program.
"Many of these statements cross over the line between social issues and economic issues. And many people might answer what we call a "Social" issue based on economic reasoning. But we have tried to arrange a series of questions which separates the way candidates think about government activities in these two broad scales."
heres an example of his stances

@JahFocus CS lol at this chart and their methodology:jbhmm:
do the quiz yourself, compares to everyone. I did it twice, got centrist and then a boring moderate liberal tag. They do well with other candidates based on what ive seen since 2008 and their articles are good. Trump is hard to nail down based on the years of various statements so maybe its moot for him

ehhh do you have one that's more global? I mean the way they've defined libertarianism is very American-centric, for example, and overall it wasn't that in depth. This is somewhat better The Political Compass

I also didn't see any question relating to socialisms nor are they really represented in the chart

The issue with quizzes like this is they are too general. As someone who relates to classical liberalism, most of those questions don't really line up.

*Abortion - This is split across the board but if you believe that life starts at conception (as I do), you also have to take into account that constitutionally, that life should have the same protections as you
*Gay Marriage - Real libertarians don't care, as long as your actions don't affect anyone outside of yourself
*Legalization of drugs - See above
*Legally require the hiring of minorities and women - It's hard to answer that with just a yes or a no. I'm opposed to it, but I'm also opposed to having race, sex, or age added to an application. Those things should never play a role in the hiring process (unless deemed necessary)
*Privatization of Social Security - most who call themselves libertarians believe that social security was a horrible idea to begin with, but aren't opposed to privatization because it gives you more control of what's being taken out

All these political quizzes suck. This one strikes me as libertarian propaganda

He has many anti-libertarian core policies..i think the end chart was essentially the aggregate of where he landed. further, trump obviously prioritizes certain things more than others which cannot be taken into account...and also, his prior stance of universal health care (1990) counts in his leanings..that shifted him a tad left on the chart too.

You can take historical quizzes based on stance too. So, for instance, I was also doing one compared to supreme court justices here, big city mayors etc. Its far from perfect, obviously, but I really doubt that website has all that much bias. Plus its not even an article, it was me compiling some of the stuff I checked on Trump that I thought was relevant since a bunch here are trying to figure out where exactly he leans. This was the most simple way of displaying one possible analysis. :yeshrug: Was put out there as food for thought.

Even if you remove yourself, you can compare Trump to Hillary and just stay within the American political sphere..which would seem more 'accurate' @Darth Humanist We've had this mini convo before about labels..it was regarding the leanings of our media here and you didnt see msnbc as very liberal or whatever, but it certainly is considered as such here.

Once Trump gets in the WH I think he's actually going to govern from the center right. Continuing to piss off the establishment from both sides :myman:

You know what isn't a Libertarian principle?

Building a border wall -- the one issue excluded from your little quiz and the main factor in Trump's ascendency.

Way to read commie.

Way to not know how to use quotes. And even if they did include factor it in, they clearly did not weight it properly. Immigration is basically the sole reason Trump is where he is right now. And absolutely no Libertarian supports his position on immigration.

All of his other positions -- cut taxes, repeal Obamacare -- are broad talking points which don't really have a specific relation to Libertarianism.
