I think on a superficial level opposites are attracted to each other, but for real sustainability you need to be and usually end up with people who are similar to you.
The opposites attract thing is only applicable to you as a man if you're extroverted.
Try being an introverted homebody and dating a woman that has to go out every weekend. See how long it lasts.
I've tried the whole 'opposites attract' situation.. it's fun at first but the longer it goes the more you realize that the reason you AREN'T your opposite is for a good reason (for you).
I want to be with someone that grows with me instead of growing as individuals together. When I come to a major realization in life, she reaches that same point and vice versa - I want a person that is truly an extension of me and not some sloppily thrown together mess that somehow manages to work.
I can't watch foreign movies with subtitles with my opposite.
I can't read a book in the same bed as my opposite (unless she's knocked out already).
I can't sit quietly and simply enjoy the thoughts running through my mind with my opposite.
I can't keep my life as a safeguarded haven with my opposite.
I mean, the sex is great (but that's the usual, and not really important) and I can play the role but even Denzel would fall out of character after awhile.
And it's all I seem to attract
Its true that opposites attract though is it the ideal relationship is the real question.
