But seriously, the northwest is not a diverse place.
There used to be a site that tracked white supremacist groups in Google maps, and Oregon had quite a few.
Oregon has a lot of the type of people who consider themselves liberals and kind of look down upon the South for the long history of racism, but they don't really interact with non-whites at all on a regular basis.
This pretty much sums up most white people, in general.

Even in areas where it's <10% it's the more subtle aspects of race relations that bares it's head, because although people may not view themselves as racist,( ie white people hate being labeled racist; even the most hate filled cat who spews the most foul shyt, hates being labeled one), interactions and encounters are largely based off of mass media stereotypes. Which can be just as dangerous, especially the notion of "violent thugs" which African-Americans carry; innocent gestures can be falsely perceived no matter the setting....

I will say that presently the lingering effects of racism appear to me far worse in the north than the south. Can anyone please tell me of a northern black utopia? Down south I can name a few, namely Atlanta, but up north not so much. And this is coming from someone who grew up and lives in NYC.
