Okay I'm seeing some awful advice in here thank God for
@Pool_Shark and
@Jesus Shuttlesworth who offered the most realistic advice
Firstly, if you are getting agitated you can leave the room for a short (short!) while and recoup but the whole 'leave the baby to cry till they sleep' advice isn't the best crying from a baby means something and just allowing a baby to cry for hours affects their hormones and brain growth.
Secondly, when a baby cries it means they want something or they are irritated. If the child is well fed, well winded, nappy clean and doesn't need anything and they usually start crying then, they are irritated.
Now we have an irritated baby. Most babies HATE lying on their back when they are awake and in a 'play' mood. They also hate being static. As
@Pool_Shark and
@Jesus Shuttlesworth said babies LOVE movement.
If you own a car put your child on the back seat and drive a few blocks (the child will be asleep within 15 minutes). Or put your baby on your shoulder and walk around the house. The baby usually likes when you are standing up and walking. For whatever reason the movement soothes them a lot. A baby who cries in one position while you are sitting down will love it when you are standing up.
As you're carrying her on your shoulder around the house make sure you do a lil 2 step rocking and just pat her.
You'll be fine.
You didn't have a baby just to stick it in a cot all day, they need to 'play' and be distracted too just like you do and those little things will really help.
