no guidance was a hit, but it's not standing up to anything i listed from usher, and it was arguably that big because of the drake collab...just because the little segment of people +/-2 years of you was fukking to "take you down" in college doesn't make it an iconic song, it was a song you and your peers loved. lovers & friends was hittin for everyone 12-40 years old, shyt was the college anthem, as well as the HS anthem, as well as the club anthem for people 21-30, as well as the married anthem for people 30-40...

pre rihanna chris brown was a teeny bopper act, for teens and college kids, post rihanna chris brown was about putting out a high volume of cool to dope songs, but they never ascended to that all time/iconic echelon.

i was actually a chris brown stan, so this aint some hate, it's pretty much accepted he's never achieved at the level he was originally set to reach, and it doesn't help that he became the lil wayne of r&b releasing 50-60 songs/year.

this aint about being current, chris 15 years in the game, he's got plenty of stuff from so long ago that can be both judged from how it resonated in real time as well as looking back on it. usher's shyt etched itself in history in real time, people love confessions because we knew it was special when it dropped in 04, this aint some sentiment that came from looking at it after usher was less relevant.
