there's a fundamental difference between telling a kid that life is hard and they need to study and get an education to be competitive (this is something ALL children are taught around the world) and telling them it's fukking HOPELESS.

we're out here telling black kids that life outside of the hood is pretty much HOPELESS (unless they rap or play ball but that's another discussion) maybe not intentionally, but that's what we're doing.

Sounds like you're just taking what's said in some rap lyrics, and applying it to the guardians in those neighborhoods. The Black authoritative figures aren't anymore reckless in their guidance than White, Arab, or Asians. The problem is, some of the authoritative figures have made reckless mistakes in the past themselves, which gives unruly kids the leeway to disobey. But I doubt none of those adults purposefully tell these kids to

There's a difference between accepting personal responsibility and gleeful naivety about the attitudes of the real world. Most Black people aren't Black panthers, NOI, or any of that. Yet those groups have done the most as far as building and promoting the idea of Black Self-Reliance. But I'm sure you think those groups were just "Getting in the way of progress"

The world can be very unwelcoming. I've lived amongst the Whites. They can either be very nice and willing to give you a shot if you show yourself to be a functional adult, or they can try their best to avoid you even if you exhibit those characteristics.
